check in was a problem...staff could care less about our needs...more interested in chatting with each other room small musty and sheets had seen much better days called office to complain thier responce ," we are closing in 10 minutes ,,,sorry " dogs barking all day and into the nite from nearby units pool was dirty anf tennis courts were being used by kids on roller skates NOT a place i would send my worst friends to !!

Not a time share -- morelike \"doing time\"

If I wanted to stay at a place with the decor, smell and atmosphere of a prison I would have gone to Thomaston. The rooms are old, dirty and smelly. The lobby is sparesly furnished and dreary. There is a large room off the reservatins desk area, but I guess it isn't for guests because I sure got dirty looks when I went in there. The staff is indifferent and rude. They acted as if they didn't want to be there and didn't want anyone else there either. It certainly was not worth trading my week at Cape Cod for. Next year I think we'll trade for Florida instead.

All is not well in Wells

This place is nothing like the pictures show on the web. They have no indoor pool and the outdoor pool is not opened - but who wants to swim outdoors in January in Maine anyway. The rooms, at least the ones on the ground level, are small and smell musty. The "kitchen" is a little cubby, the sofa bed doesn't have room to fold out and the view from the bedroom is the backside of the pool. The staff appears to be indifferent - just accepting of the fact that all guests are going to complain and they have no ability to change that -- so they don't care much about guest comments or suggestions. We will never trade our week on Cape Cod to come here again. Wells is a cute town, with lots going for it -- really love the lighthouse store/museum -- but there are many nicer,cleaner and more accomodating places to stay.

Old, run down, awful

This "condo hotel" is definitely late 60's to early 70's; the problem is it hasn't been refurbished much since then. You get no view of the beach or the ocean, the pool is cold even in Summer. It certainly doesn't look anything like what the web shows. The picture of the indoor pool is a hoax -- they don't even have one. The rooms were worn and not very clean. We tried out two rooms, and they both smelt musty. The "hot tub" in one of the suites was neither hot nor clean. Certainly not worth more than $50.00 a night in the condition they are in. Staff tried to help, but given the product they have to sell they can't do very much.

2007 Experience

I was a little worried about seeing The Nautical Mile after reading the reviews on this site. But I considered the dates they had been written when my sister chose it for our one week stay. Arriving was a delightful surprise. Everything was freshly painted. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our unit was clean, cheerfully decorated, and fully equipped with modern appliances and household items to fill every need. My sisters and I had a wonderful stay there. We could cook in or eat out at a variety of excellent restaurants nearby. We were close to the beaches, shopping, and theater, and could even use the local trolley. I recommend it highly. Great value.

Can't Wait to go back again!!

I really did enjoy how much the resort has improved. I had no dislikes at all. It appears this place is under new management.I didn't know what I would find at this location after reading all of the reviews. I was very suprised to find that all of the rooms had be re-decorated, the building painted and the staff was wonderful. We were given directions to all of the locations we asked the staff. They were helpful and made many, many suggestions on places to eat, relax, shop and enjoy. They told us the resort was under new management and it appears to be working wonderfully. I was informed that by June, I would be able to book my room on line and that all calling, local and long distance calls, in the United States, were free. The staff could not have been friendler. Thanks

Very pleasantly surprised

After reading the scathingly negative reviews on this site we almost decided to cancel and look elsewhere, but we had been invited by friends with a timeshare there and we decided to take a chance and go, and were very glad that we did. Rooms were very nice, clean, comfortable and loaded with all cooking necessities, (which we didn't use). There are several great seafood restaurants within a few minutes walk, and others a short drive away, including some very elegant gourment places. Cable TV in bedroom and living room/kitchen. The pool was crystal clear and very comfortable. It's only a mile from the beach (much colder water there). Nice tennis and basketball courts on site. Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Ogunquit is only a few minutes down the road. All in all not a luxurious place, no view, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the rates were very reasonable for summer in Maine,the location is ideal and we would be happy to go back.
