22 reviews for Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark, Dubuque
fun mini getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/28/09
I read a handful of online reviews on this hotel after I booked it and was quite worried after reading the reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised by our overall stay. The rooms are nothing extravagant (we had a 2 double bed room) but they are clean and adequate. We have 3 kids ranging from 11-16 and all of them had fun. The waterpark was nice...lots to do and my 11 year old had the BEST time. Teens might become a little bored after a while. We had a drink at Tony Romas (hotel restaurant) in the evening...nice atmosphere...and then breakfast in the morning...little pricey for breakfast but the service was good and so was the food. We had a wireless connection everywhere in the hotel which was nice. You'll find the check in/out on second floor, but not a big deal. I do think families with kids would enjoy this hotel as a mini getaway... (little kids must have parent w/them in the waterpark) there are lifeguards walking around but not babysitting). There is also a little concession stand in the waterpark. The only STUPID thing was that the tv menu advertises "adult" channels and I don't know how easily accessible that crap is but for families w/ kids it's scary...plus who wants creepers that watch that stuff roaming around a family friendly hotel / waterpark anyway? We paid $116 for an overnight stay w/ 5 park passes (2 double bed)

Bad experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/19/09
We stayed here several years ago and have never gone back. They placed us in a handicapped room (we hadn't requested one and didn't need one) When I questioned the desk clerk the next morning if they were filled up last night I was told they were not. I asked why we were given a handicapped room then and she just shrugged. The room wasn't clean and of course there was no room for anything on the sink/vanity area because it was handicapped accessible. I dashed off my comments to the management and never even received an answer. With their attitude, I guess they didn't need our business.

Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/24/08
We booked a very lovely wedding at the adjoining conference center. That went very well. The hotel is the problem. Check-in is on the second floor, there aren't enough elevators, service was poor. My daughter had the wedding suite for an outrageous price after we booked about 30 rooms and have the conference center! Then they didn't even get the champagne etc. they were supposed to! I would never do business with this hotel again. The conference center is great. I wrote a letter of complaint and received nothing back - not even an I'm sorry.

Not the best experience
By TIM, 09/07/07
My family was excited to stay here but this was the most overpriced hotel I have ever been to. This place has the most bizzare design I have ever seen at a hotel. The Front dest is located on the second floor for some reason. There was not enough elevators, waited for long periods the entire weekend we were there. This is a 200 room 7 story hotel and there were 2 elevators. The returant was ok but high priced. The rooms were very small, a little dirty and you could hear right through the walls to the next room. What was most confusing was that it was on the river and there is no river view from the resturant. The water park is small and needs work. The lifeguards were great but there is no real swim pool. There are 3 average sized water slides and the a very small lazy river that does not circle anything in the park. If you have been to the dells or Funcity in burlington and that is your expectation, I would advise you not to bother with the grandharbor.

Disappointing Birthday Celebration
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/07
We recently celebrated my son's 10th birthday party at Grand Harbor. There were 2 adults and 8 children. The service at the beginning was good. Once we entered the water park, the experience was disappointing. We spent 4 1/2 hours at the park and for three of those hours, the plunge pool and lazy river were closed because there was feces in the water! After returning home, my husband has called twice and asked to have management return his call regarding our experience. No one has ever called back to even apologize for the inconvenience. We will not be returning!

By steve, 05/31/07
We wanted to change our reservation date 4 days prior to our arrival . They said they wouldn't be able to do that and we would lose out on the entire room fee. Everyone please read the fine print, They aren't aimed to please!! Sincerely, Out of $150.00 !!

Not sure I would go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/29/07
The hotel is nice and clean, but the regisration desk is on the second floor. When we checked there was no one to help us with the luggage. The parking lot was full we had to park next door. There was a train on the other side of the river that is very loud even with the windows closed. Also did not like the air temperature control. It just did not seem to be acurate. The view was wonderful. The resturant was average but the service was bad. I got a wonderful rate at expedia and we did not use the water park even though I did take a look at it. It looked okay. This is just an average hotel in a great location
