STAY HOME, do NOT stay at The Pineapple Inn
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/06
My friend and I reserved two rooms for the fourth of July weekend. For $130 per night we expected cleanliness and a safe atmosphere. As we pulled in to the parking lot we both started to cringe. The "housekeeping crew" were hanging outside a room with their supplies, smoking cigarettes and listening to loud music. This was our welcome to the Pineapple Inn. Our second clue to runaway is that the front desk charged my credit card up front!!! My fault, I didn't request to see the room first. Our room was HORRIBLE. I am not a hotel snob, but this was ridiculous. Our "neighbors" lived at the hotel and were hanging out in the front drinking gin (they made sure to tell us) and were having people over. The room itself was filthy and moldy. There was a greasy substance all over the door, and we pulled the bed covers and realized the sheets were stained. After about 30 minutes of calling other hotels we decided it was worth shelling out some extra money to stay somewhere else. Although the Pineapple Inn was very VOCAL about their no refund policy, I politely requested some type of refund. The woman at the front desk was extremely polite and called her manager. As expected, I would do the same, he did argue a bit but eventually relented to giving me a FULL refund. The truth shall set you free. I let them know the room and hotel were not up to par from what is advertised on line, and to charge $293 (tax) for two nights is ridiculous. Can't argue with that. About 30 seconds after he agreed to my full refund, he loudly commented that my friend and I (both young females) had been checked in for an hour, and accused us of certain behavior that was extremely offensive. I quietly handed him the hotel key and suggested he check out the room, which had not been touched.
We received a full refund.
If you care for your safety do not stay here. I can deal with less than nice hotel accomodations, but the atmosphere was shady.
Newport is expensive and it's hard to find a nice affordable place during the 4th. But it's not worth it. Besides, we explained our situation to the alternate hotel and they found us a nice room, clean, and safe. Regardless of the Pineapple Inn's policy, if after you check in - you are not satisfied, do not leave until you are fully refunded. By law, they do not meet their end of the contract.
