No hosptality, I rather stay somewhere else
By rena, 8/18/09
The staff did not greet us. Just gave us the key and gave us directions to the small room, where I itched all night from I don't know what. The Staff should be retrained just to smile and say enjoy your stay. The manager seems nice she was on the phone when I arrived but the lady Deadre was just rude!! The hotel is not that bad because you are close to everything, but I prefer to stay somewhere else.

We enjoyed our stay
This hotel is not super fancy but was reasonably priced and we thought the service staff was fantastic and we have been there twice this summer. My wife and I stayed at the Pequot Hotel the last weekend of May for a last minute off cape overnight idea. On our first visit we booked a regular room for two we had a great time. There was a mix-up with the reservation and they charged my card, but apparently they didn't reserve the room in error and the last regular room was gone. I spoke with Lisa who was very pleasant and she very nicely gave us the suite at the same price which was like the other rooms but was huge (perhaps triple the size with a living room). Nice. The rooms themselves were not very fancy but they were very clean and everything was tidy and it worked out fine for us. We had a great time and the common areas were immaculate. The Pequot has a decent European type breakfast layout in a spacious room with newspapers and we had cereal, fruit, OJ, coffee and nice muffins. Not bad at all and again at each interaction we thought the service staff was very nice. The Pequot Hotel itself is a MV gingerbread style structure with a great long porch with beautiful hanging plants and a little yard with nice landscaping. Some friendly people hung out on the porch before dinner and we enjoyed talking with them and they shared their wine with us. Back to the staff’s service - it was all good but Lisa made our stay nicer at each interaction –she was always making a point of making us feel welcome as in the end, service always makes the difference between a good place and a place you really enjoy. At first we thought she was the owner as she was so engaging, but I think she is the general manager. She spent time chatting with both my wife and I as well as with other guests, helping us decide on things to do, recommending good restaurants for us, and she called us taxi’s a few times for a couple visits to other areas on the Island . Some hotels don't put in the effort in that area but Lisa was clearly the most welcoming and service oriented (the others were nice also). Everything worked out so well on our first visit we decided to come back for the 4th of July weekend with a few friends (two couples and one single female friend of ours) and we booked their three bedroom apartment which saved us all a little money and it was actually sort of fun as there was decent space to hang out a bit together and we had our own kitchen and private little porch. When we wondered if one friend in the 3rd back room might be warm (as she didn’t have her own AC) Lisa ran out and picked up a fan for her within 15 minutes – very nice. Sharing the single bathroom was a not a big deal but in the morning during the morning showers I used the bathroom in the main building but all in all we were fine with it. Lisa offered to hold onto our bags after checkout and she even stashed some soda/ beer and leftover food we had in the hotel’s fridge while we checked out the Island before our afternoon ferry back to Falmouth.

This is truly a "home away fromhome". The owner has really done an excellent job oc creating an at home atmosphere.

Because we did not drive, and the other person in my party not being able to do much walking, it was a challenge to get here from the boat. However, it is located on a very quiet & picturesque street.

Minimally Acceptable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/28/06
My husband and I stayed at the Pequot recently and were disappointed. The Positives: They have delicious cookies in the lobby, as well as a fruit basket, and guests can help themselves. The Negatives: First, our room was not esp. clean, had burns on the carpet, and had a shower that was too small to turn around in. Second, the continental breakfast is sparce, self-serve, and requires you to eat on paper plates and from plastic bowls. I don't mind that generally, but when the room costs $200/night, I expect more. Finally, we asked the person at the desk to recommend a quiet, out-of-the-way restaurant, and she sent us to a place in the very center of town that you could hear from a block away. All in all, our bike ride around the Vineyard was great, but our experience at the Pequot was not.
