Outrigger Resort, Monticello

The day after Memoral Day my girls were getting ready to travel back to their homes or get back into their rigid work schedules we decided we needed a day out having fun to releive some of lives tensions so I took off work at noon and we loaded up and traveled an hour and a half to Indiana Beach only to find this week they are only open until 6 pm. Since it was already 4:30 we decided that the $30 Pop passes were just not worth it so we decided to salvage the day by renting a boat we first went to lake Shafer Boat Rentals next to Indiana Beach, we arrived at 5 PM and were turned down renting a boat because the attendant, whom I beleive to be the owner but I am not sure of this fact, stated that he had a long weekend and wanted to get home to his family so I ask point blank so you will not rent to me he shook his head no so we left very dissappointed in the day as we were about ready to leave town we learned of another place that would rent boats it was Out Riggers Resort, upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly lady who said yes we can rent until 9 pm so we quickly ran after soda and returned a little before 7 we rented a pontoon for two hours and had a blast they saved our day which was a very important day to us. The boat was in excellent shape and the service was exceptionally good. I not only reccomend this place to everyone but i also plan to come back in the near future and rent a cabin for a couple days and the boat for several hours. I highly recommend driving past the big rental place in town and do your bussiness with Outriggers resort. I have not seen the inside of the cabins yet but all indications tell me that I will be happy when I do.

Everyone is so friendly. The owners treat you like family. My kids do not want to go anywhere else. We are going back on 8/31/07.

Pros: Owners are wonderful, offering their homegrown fruit and veggies, Lake view very nice, outdoor area with firepit, picnic table,multiple chairs,patio table and grill very nice, cabin living room/kithen/bedrooms very roomy, location excellent, pontoon and jet ski rentals on premises Cons: Cabins need updating and were filled with cobwebs and not cleaned well, bathrooms were awful with mold, rust and foul smelling water. We brushed our teeth in kitchen sink. It was hot when we were there and old and noisey a/c-thermostat did not work, beware of how many can sleep in each cabin-advertised "hide-a-beds" deceiving&uncomfortable-units have cheap futons which can only sleep one adult or 2 kids, outdoor fencing by dropoff to lake not to code-used unattractive wire fencing,would not let young children nearby. We do not expect much with cabins but would not return to that bathroom and shower.

My husband and son talked me into camping for three nights at the campgrounds. After one night I realized this wasn't for me, plus I had my eye on the Outrigger's because the property was so nice. We got lucky because they had a no-show and had one cottage available. We absolutely loved everything about it. The location and view was great. It was extremely clean and the decorating was very charming. I highly recommend this place if you are thinking about spending time in the Indiana Beach area. Everything is within walking distance and there is so much to keep the kids busy. The owner's are very nice and even have fresh vegetables from their garden for the guests. If we would have stayed at the camp grounds, our trip wouldn't have been as great, but fortunately we found the Outrigger's and was able to have a memorable getaway.
