Disappointing

Although billed as a resort with a spa, Marys Lake Lodge is only slightly above a motel in amenities. The staff, although pleasant, are unprofessional and the place is run by guess and by golly... the rooms in the lodge are bland and "upgraded" as cheaply as possible. The so-called spa is only open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., unlike the spas in most resorts, which have evening hours to unwind guests' sore muscles. The dining room only opened for breakfast at 9 a.m., condemning guests to a very late start if they were going hiking or doing any other outdoor activity (that is usually why one goes to the mountains, yes?) Anyone familiar with the thunderstorm patterns in the Rockies knows that you need to make an early start on the day, so that by 2 p.m. you have finished hiking.
Most of the surrounding land was being developed as Marys Lake condos, so that the so-called parking spaces I was recommended to park in were in reality heaps of dirt; dirt-moving equipment was parked all around, spoiling the views. The back of the lodge had the kitchen vent spewing greasy smells from it, and the hallways had extremely noisy air conditioning vents that created a low dull roar all night long. The newly built hot tub and pool's posted hours were 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., but the sign at the front desk stated different times (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and it was impossible to get anyone to help open up the hot tub even at the later time. Although the facility is located in a beautiful spot, the Web site does not give a realistic picture of what awaits guests who venture there.
