I loved the people there and price
By ,
The place had the right price for me and my brother to stay at Gettysburg the Owners were on hand to help very friendly people. it was with in walking destance of the high water mark of civil war and I would say a person in good power chair would make it there and back on a single full charge plus go to many of the shops and stuff on their main street. Abebraham Lincoln gave his speech just with in 200 yards or so of this motel. When I was there thunder clouds came in at night and it sounded like distant cannon fire very cool stuff. I say if friendly and the right price is what you are looking for when you go to Gettysburg Colton Motel should be your first place you check into.

Awesome time! Even got evps!!
By ,
I loved the location. It's not the most classy place as it is a MOTEL... The people I got to deal with were friendly and helpful. We only go there now and we've stayed at quite a few places. We went with the intentions of "ghost hunting" and actually caught a few voices right in our room after getting yelled at for being on the battlefield after dark. It helps set the mood when you look out your door and get to see the eerie scene of a cemetery.

stayed there for the third time.
By ,
This time we had the 3 bedroom suite above the pool. When we rolled in, my wife opened the back hatch of our car & all our stuff fell out onto the parking lot, then Habib from the office had this huge fight with the cleaning lady, and we knew we would never stay any place else. On our first visit, we found a potato in the dresser drawer. Our kids couldnt believe it. We will most definately be coming back, we love this place.

Hmmmmm
By ,
All these mixed reviews.... Thats why ,as a Reenactor.......I camp out. Much more a better experience to live as the troops did for a few days than to be the a- typical modern tourist.Especially at a place like Gettysburg,Pa.I have no beef about the motels/hotels and understand everyones differences of opinions here, as i too stayed at most of 'em .But camping out is much better in the end in my case personally.(just my opinion ,and date of visit is actually waaay earlier than what is listed). And by the way. after a good days reenacting anything served there in the way of food is considered dang good eatins,lol.All-in all the Colton is Ok i guess.

It was fine
By ,
My husband and I did not want to spend a King's ransom for a place we'd spend very little time in except to sleep... so the comforts of home are not necessary. Our concerns were if it was clean, bed/pillows comfy, spotless bathroom, and a working tv, phone and lamps.... and our answers were YES to all. The motel is affordable AND in the heart of many Gettysburg shops, restaurants and the cemetery was in our backyard! Couldn't ask for anything better! However, the back window had a broken lock and a gap, so we were concerned anyone could break in from the back.... we just kept valuables in our car and left the bathroom light on while we were out touring. We would consider staying there again.... but the continental breakfast could have been more than one kind of a pastry and coffee (dry cream packets only)...so go down the street to one of the great breakfast places! All was good.

NEVER
By ,
The first encounter I had was with the man at the front desk. We arrived at the motel at 2:15 PM because I had been told the day before that we could check in at 1 PM when I called to confirm our reservations. He literally threw a piece of paper at me that said check-in was at 3 PM....We exchangd words and at that point I should have just walked out never to return. I didn't and have regretted it ever since. The room was disgusting with hair all over the bathroom walls. The tub area felt like it was falling through a rotten floor when in the shower. Paper towels would have been better for drying off after a shower than those paper thin towels and we were given exactly 2. Our fire alarm started beeping in the middle of the night and the next morning I called the front desk to tell them about it and asked that the battery be replaced and was told "just take the battery out". It was never replaced while we were there. If the place had caught on fire we would not have had any warning. I sat outside reading one afternoon while my husband took a nap and bees were swarming everywhere. I will give credit to one of the people who cleaned rooms, he did go get some raid and tried to kill them, announcing it wasn't his job but he would do it anyway. Never have I been treated so badly upon arriving at any motel and I have stayed at many and I have stayed at motels even cheaper than this one and never experienced anything like this. We were at this motel for 4 days and I can tell you it was the longest four days of my life in a motel. If it was not for wanting to experience Gettysburg and the battlefields I would have left day one. A word to the wise check out America's Best Value Motel just down the street and if the Colton is the only motel available...sleep in your car.

Never Again Worst Stay Ever
By ,
My husband and son and I have been staying at this motel for a long long time about 10 years and this by far was the worst year ever. And I can guarantee the last time we will stay there. First they put us in the upstairs room which would have been ok but the steps going up are narrow and steep and rotting and falling apart, then the deck and walk way is all rotted wood that goes up and down when you walk, not to mention very narrow, the rail is loose and falling apart and is an accident waiting to happen. I mentioned it several times and never once even though I mentioned I am disabled did they offer to move us down stairs instead we were told be lucky you have a room and walked away. On Saturday we came back to the room to find a huge bag of garbage that was left and no towels again when I mentioned it no one offered to do anything to correct it. Then on Sunday after a day at the battle field we came home to find that a 12 pack of beer and two sick packs of pepsi were missing and again when it was mentioned nothing was done at all, except for the fact that we were woken up by the maid pounding on our door asking how could we say that and no one would have done that and again when I talked to the manager and the owner they did the same thing, all I know is they did not walk out of their own their own someone stole them. They offer free wifi service except no one knows the password to allow you to get in. The worst stay ever and will never put my family through that instead of resting and relaxing I was stressed the whole time we were there. It was dirty and unsafe

Ghosts, Battlefields and cheap lodging?
By ,
We recently visited Gettysburg and checked into the Colton Motel based on some positive ratings we viewed here that this was a no frills motel but budget priced. I had sticker shock when we checked in however because the room was $ 90+ dollars with taxes. Grant it we didn't have reservations or any discount/group rate- that was just the walk in price for a non-smoking room with a double and single bed. I really like retro and so the pink and black tiled bathroom and white ceramic tub were cool. The motel is quite dated, maybe a bit more than I had hoped or expected. It was reasonably clean, a little musty smelling but not more than we could bare. The mattresses were akin to foam on a board and you might want to bring your own pillows. The linens and towels were adequate and the A/C was in good working condition. Bring your own alarm clock and please note there is no phone in the room. The staff was helpful and friendly and they serve hot coffee, OJ and pastries in the morning. The motel is within walking distance to the National Cemetery and some nice local eateries and shops. The motel has a guided ghost walk which they advertise, they even have a small coffin and a pale soldier manaquin in the lobby if you are into that type of thing. Overall, I would say we were willing to trade modern style and conveniences for a budget price...not sure where that budget price went??

It's too overpriced for the quality.
By ,
What we paid for the rooms were way too overpriced. The bedding smelled of cigarettes, the room above the pool was not safe for anyone to stay in, the deck had loose floor boards, the steps and railing were falling apart, there bees hovering around the stairs preventing anyone from using them, and in the winter it was very icy and dangerous going up and down the stairs.
