Every review we read about GWL complained about how poor the hotel part was. The complainers must have expected the Hyatt - because we had a blast and the hotel was great for a theme park. Our wait in line to check-in was fast (that is after we made it through the line of all the people who didn't make reservations before - and probably the same that complained about the wait). Once we got to counter everything was ready and we got a great place w/ balcony on the fourth floor - and we got the military discount - the way it should be! The water park was great - especially for my nephew. They served us fudge in line - everyone was nice - and they even had printed pamphlets with info on local alcohol stores and restaurants. I'm glad we read all the stupid complaints from finicky people about the hotel not being immaculate because we thought is was perfect - especially for a major theme park. We loved GWL.
We have been to the lodge several times and have no complaints. The prices can be a little high during holidays (always stay during christmas week) but this year used a company discount which helped stay a day longer. The whole atmosphere is great though older kids may be bored but for younger kids and familys everthing is great. Did notice that this stay some of the hotel seemed to be understaffed especially in the bear claw cafe, a very popular place to get coffee and sweets. only one person working there at night but she did a great job trying to keep up. The magiquest game is enertaining but can be pricey but not to bad if you bring your wands back. All hotel staff very freindly and helpful. Planning on taking my granddaughter in a couple of years when she is older. My two older kids have outgrown it but my youngest still likes it. Also ther is a lot of great entertanment in the area of this lodge, Cabelas, dave and Busters, T-REX cafe and much more. Would return for another visit and highly recommend.
I was hesitant in going after reading the reviews, but we were completely pleased. We booked 8 rooms for 14 adults and 23 grandchildren and everyone said they had a great time and there wasn't a problem with their rooms. All thought their rooms were really nice. Yes the room rate is a little high, but when you include the use of the water park all day for how many are in your room, it isn't a bad rate at all. The waterpark was fantastic for all and the service was excellent. Yes it took about 30 minutes for check in but there were 4 attendant working the desk and it was a holiday weekend with the Lodge completely booked. I thought they did great. We used the restaurant that evening for pizza for all. Some prize as if we went to pizza hut and it was good. From the reservation salesman, desk clerks, restaurant servers, etc. we couldn't have asked for any place more accomodating and pleasant. The only think I would have marked down on was the 2 sofas in the main lobby. They were very dirty and stained. And yes we would go back. Grandkids are wanting to again next year. Thank you Great Wolf Lodge for a great memory time.
The saving grace of this hotel is the waterpark. The lifeguards were friendly and very attentive. At one point no one was in outside pool and @ least 4 lifequards were still walking around looking in the water. Not alot of things for older kids, no deep pool or diving boards. The room was fairly clean, but there were tears in the sofa and bedding. A diaper that had been dropped in the grass was there for 3 days before it was picked up, The most annoying thing was the price of everything. You had to pay to use the lockers in the waterpark- $10 a day. Knowing you will need someplace to put keys it would be nice if this was a perk for hotel guests. Instead of giving free forgotten items, like a cheaper hotel might do, this one had a store to buy them in (marked up of course). The only movie channels on the tv had to be bought. Only had news, sports, and nick. The food in the cafes and vending machine was way overpriced. $50 for hamburger and fries for 4 people. Golf, magiquest, craft corner, spa, arcade all cost extra, and overpriced. kids did enjoy the magiquest, and it certainly wore them out. I strongly suggest stopping and getting snacks and sandwich stuff to keep in rooms rather than eating there. All that said the employees were very kid-friendly and I never felt nervous about safety of our kids. "Workers" of the lodge should be praised, owners and people who make business decisions should be ashamed.
This was our 4th and LAST stay at GWL. First, this hotel has a no cancellation policy within 72 hours. Our daughter was in the ER a couple days before we were scheduled to go, and we couldn't take her swimming for 10 days following her visit. GWL rescheduled us for two weeks later, for an additional $100, and said that they would not reschedule under any circumstances and we'd lose the full price of the room (which must be paid in advance) if we didn't show. Two weeks later, and we have two kids w/the stomach flu. So, we had no choice but to take them this past Sunday and hope for the best. KEEP IN MIND, this dilemma probably occurs for lots of parents; at least it also happened to my coworker (she took sick kids). What does that mean? Kids GET SICK IN THE ROOM! (as did our kids). We cleaned it up ourselves, but well, consider how germy these rooms must be.
Second, the accommodations are awful. The rooms are worn out and our bedding was smelly (before we got there). Lumpiest mattresses EVER (and we've stayed in 4 different rooms), our A/C leaked prodigious amounts of water, and the elevator closest to our room was broken for a whole day.
Third, the food in the restaurant is high priced and awful. Once we figured that out, we've taken our food or eaten at the nearby Legends mall.
Fourth, if you're wondering why we went back 3 times.... well, our kids love the waterpark and it is less than 2 hours from our home, so it worked for a quick getaway. This is a waterpark for young kids....12 and under. It's too small to warrant frequent visits or to entertain older kids. One night is enough; we once stayed 2 nights and were miserable (lumpy mattresses, night noise). Doesn't matter to us, though, because we will not return.
Our stay was very dissapointing, we waited in line to check in almost 30 minutes they only had 2 people working front desk at 6:00 p.m. on a Friday nite. When we got to our room after being in the water park that evening at about 8:30 it was freezing cold our heater was not working. Maintenance had to come and change it out at 9:00 at nite , we had 3 tired kids that were ready for bed and we had to leave while they did the work. They did not offer a different room nothing. When we got back the heater was running and running and running the one they replaced it with the thermostat did not work . I woke up in the middle of the nite sweltering and it was set on 70, so we had to just turn it off till morning. We also had NO hot water they tried giving us some lame excuses just wait ten minutes maintenance is looking into it , we are almost booked full everyone must be trying to take a shower at the same time. Well I tried at 10:00 pm, 10:30, and also the next morning and same NO hot water. I was very mad when someone pays that much for a room I expect HEAT that works and HOT WATER. My kids did enjoy the water park but other than that it was a very dissapointing expierience. For the price you pay I don't feel like the service or accomidations are worth it. We stayed on 1/21/11
I went there once and it was very fun! The bad things are that the life guards have a crappy attitude, and the bathrooms were dirty. Otherwise it was great. Fun slides, great for all ages, good food, and cool rooms!
It was worth the time/money, and i would highly recrommend it to others.
2 other bad things were bad were: i celebrated my birthday there and the waiters in the restraunt would sing a birthday song that went something like this: "Happy birthday to you! just shake your booty booty just shake it! happy birthday to you!" so ya it was really emberesing. the other one was that i brought some friends and it took me like 2 hours to find them in a 5 acre waterpark. Overall though, it was great.
yes,it is high prise but its so much FUN! You cant never be bored!!!They have a amazing water park!!!! :) They even have a knew slide came out in 2010 march! A fun arcade!!!! Magic quest!!!!! lots of resturants inside the hotail!!!!! A alsome suit!!!!! They have a spa plase for aldults and kids!!!
Its a realy alsome plase to go to!!!!!!!
Our family was planning on coming to spend a weekend next summer for a get-to gether, around 16 people but after reading the comments I'm not so sure this is the place we would like to be together. Doesn't sound like everything is the cleanest and the service isn't the best overall. Having to wait to slide wouldn't be the kids idea of fun!!
The place is way over priced! For that price you should get a room, entrance in to the waterpark and free mini golf, free breakfast and free movie and nintindo rental.
Is far as cleanliness goes we had 2 coch roaches in our room and the hand towels were not clean and one of our bath towels had fresh makeup on it. The bathrooms in the waterpark were very unclean! The floors need to be cleaned more often!!!
The location was good, alot of nice restrauants and good shopping very close by.
I would not recommend this to anyone of my family or friends.
It was not worth the time or the money to go.
