My fave place on earth. I come to life there among the natural charm and the artistic and enlightened people I always meet. I'm a classical guitarist and have played many places, but the place I absolutely love to play is here, because the appreciation I get from people is complete. I like to play in the big communal dining room during meals. I play arpeggios and flamenco and a lot of fingerstyle arrangements of folk rock stuff from the 70's and 60's. I like watching people talk as they eat, and they always thank me kindly afterwards. I've been to harbin hot springs also, but people there are so nlightened that they're not interested in talking to you anymore. Orr is very homey and open hearted and authentic. It's always a challenge coming out of the valley and into the real world afterwords.
I have been making pilgrimages to this place since the early 70's when it was a "hippie commune". I am attracted to the compact intimacy, the "funkiness"i.e the sense and experience of what it may have been like in it's earlier days (old buildings and cast iron bath tubs), the communal atmosphere, its unpretentiousness. But due to county codes this may change quite a bit this year;bye-bye too bad.
I love Orr! I've been there every year (at least once a year) for the last 7 or 8 years. It is the place I go for spiritual solitude and rejuvenation...Orr is a natural, eco-friendly, rustic hot springs resort. Small and secluded, run by very cool earthy folks. It's clothing optional and set in a lovely, verdant valley among the hills about half an hour out of Ukiah, CA. It's a place where native peoples had connected with their spiritual center for hundreds of years before we came along. No phones, no t.v.'s...just quiet. And the rippling, giggling of running water all around...there's a stream running through the property, in addition to the hot springs. Also a sauna, steam room and pool fed by the springs. Lovely gardens, a big communal kitchen for cooking up your favorite meals (have to bring your own food, as there isn't a restaurant). You can camp there, and they also have rooms or small cabins to rent. Also offer massages, etc. If you want to get away from it all...this is the place.
