Enjoyed the cross country skiing. This is my first year of cross country skiing. Fell alot but getting the hang of it. There has been record snowfall in the Canaan Valley area in the 2009-2010 winter so if you want to try cross country skiing, this is the time. Great trails and excellent atmosphere. The food in the restaurant at White Grass is excellent. Ate lunch. They also serve evening meals however you have to make a reservation in advance. Highly recommend.
Their website says they have 30km of groomed trails. Hah! The day we were there they had about 1.3km! And the trails were icey...definitely needed grooming. When we complained, the woman who sold us the trail pass said she'd let us have snowshoes without paying for the rental. So, we ate lunch and when we tried to get the snow shoes, the guy behind the counter said we had to pay $12.00! LIARS! Even if they get 5' of snow, I'd never come back to this place. I'll try anywhere else.
Black Bear is a hidden gem. It is an incredible year round resort with a community feel in the wilderness.
