My husband started going to Rainbow Lake with his family in 1964 and has not missed a year since - this summer will be his 48th year to go. I started going with him in 1987. We have taken our children since they were infants and summer would not be complete without our family time at the Lake. Kitty and Freddie are like extended family to us. It's a magical place. The fishing is very good, lots of hiking and 4-wheel trails in the surrounding mountains, golf at Colegiate Peaks, peaceful, fresh air, stars and memories.
We were surprised with a weekend trip here as a wedding gift. That was thirteen years ago, and we haven't missed a year since! There is nothing i would change about this place - the people are amazing, the scenery is breathtaking and the fishing is great - even for a novice like myself. The hummingbirds keep you on your toes, the cabins are clean, comfortable and well maintained. Kitty and Freddie have got personality and knowledge to spare. I could go on and on, but everyone has summed it up pretty well - if you want a place to plan for next year's vacation, this is it!!
I used to be a Superviser Cabin Cleaner at Rainbow Lake and I scrutinized every cabin inside and out just to make sure each cabin was comfortable and up to Kitty and Freddie`s high standards. My husband and I even stayed there on our honeymoon in 2004. I would still be working there but I moved to Nevada to be with my husband where he works. I just happened by this website today 9/6/2011 and thought you`d like to know if you are searching for a place to make beautiful memories you will find it at Rainbow Lake, as matter of fact you`d better start at the end of every season just to get a reservation for the next.
my wife and I took our children there for our 2011 family vacation. this place is amazing and we found nothing bad about rainbow Lake resort. We just returned last week and have already booked 7 days there for 2012. Indiana is not the same after visiting Colorado. Thank you Kitty & Freddy for being such great host, you truely touched our childrens hearts dearly. If you want a rural family vacation in the mountains of Colorado this is the place.
you'll be spoiled to what a real outdoor vacation is after your first visit to Rainbow Lake. My extended family has been going there off & on since 1978. There is no other place like it for the overall beauty, fishing, hiking, wildlife and family time it offers. I don't know of one family member of ours that would EVER refuse a vacation to Rainbow Lake. The reason I hesitate to write this is because they fill up all their rooms so quickly each year it's hard to get a reservation in anymore; you have to do it a year out now, especially for the big cabins. Anyway, you & your family will never regret it if you visit. They don't call that area of Colorado "The American Version of the Swiss Alps" for no reason.
Our family loves Rainbow Lake, we have been going for years. The kids were young and have always looked forward to the walks, fishing, chats around the fireplace and always our rowdy UNO games until late into the night. Each year I take framed pictures of years past and set them around because to us this is our summer home. We usually stay at Mountain View and love the views, the quiet and family time. Freddy & Kitty have always made sure everything was just right for us, right down to telling us what the fish were biting on. I have nothing but praise for Rainbow Lake Resort and know we will be coming back for for many years. It is fantastic to see the generations in our family grow and enjoy this fantastic family resort.
We started going there when our boys were young. We so enjoyed the smells, fishing, fireplaces, and walks. The cabins were a great, clean & cozy. The former school teacher & her husband who ran the place, were some of the most wonderful people I met. Many memories were made between my boys & there father. Memories they would need when their father passed away with cancer. 6 mths after his death, I went back alone, and the peace I felt there help me to carry on.
I would highly recommend, anytime you can go, go make those lasting memories with your family.
