Caples Lake Resort, Kirkwood

I just got back from skiing a Kirkwood and stayed at Caples Lake Resort. Its a short drive from the slopes and clean quiet and inviteing. The cabins are old but the staff has done a lot of work to make them like new. everything was clean and the pillow top mattress was verry comfy. the cabin I stayed in had lots of room for the family to relax in after we got off the slopes. it is rustic but verry nice the staff was friendly and inviting. they have sleds for the kids to play on and snowshoes for their guests to use free of charge. I read some of the other reviews on here but since they were all old I thought I would give it a try and am glad I did I highly recomend it to anyone that enjoys piece and quiet.

The resort is in major disrepair. The deck that we had had no bottom railing. We had to use our icechests to stop our two year old from going over the edge. The deck chairs are old with no paint and are sure to give you splinters if you sat in them. Inside the Cabin, we had two set mouse traps under our BED!!! And we used our sleeping bags (which we had since this was the second part of our camping trip) and pillows instead of the ones on the bed. We will definitely not being going bac despite the fact that Caple Lake is a beautiful lake.

My wife and I have stayed once at Caples Lake resort in 2007. We visit the area of Caples Lake/Silver Lake every year, camping at the Silver Lake campground until 2006 when we sold our tent trailer. This September, 2008, we telephoned Caples Lake Resort to make reservations for the Lodge room (which has a nice view of the lake) and got into Voice Mail jail: we heard nothing except how someone caught a 3lb brown trout, about the lower water level in the lake after a certain. date and about the adjacent store. Incredibly, there was no message about whether or not we wanted to make a room reservation or even asked for our phone number. When the voice mail option prompted us to try the store next door, we got pretty much the same nonsense, i.e., you just couldn't find out about accommodations. We emailed Caples Lake Resort twice with no response. After this we gave up on the place. From now on we are taking our business to Kit Carson Lodge which is about 6 miles away by Silver Lake. In truth, Kit Carson lodge has much nicer accommodations, fine dining and a decent store, although it is more expensive. In addition, Silver Lake is much prettier than Caples lake, less windy and you can also canoe and kayak there. The lodge rooms are advertised as "rustic" and that is basically what you get, a clean, simple room. Photography in the area is exceptional. Lakes, hiking trails, mountains ... Fishing, boating, hiking, bike riding - lots to do.

The manager and staff are very unfriendly. They need a course in customer relations. It is a wonder they have any business. I will not go back.
