Lost Canyon Resort, Gunnison

The rooms need major updating but a match would be better and less expensive. All the beds sink to the middle just standing back and looking at them. The oven in our room was sixty to seventy years old. When walking about the cabin you feel as you have been drinking then you realize that, it is only the floors that are drastically uneven. We left and rented a motel in town. I can go on and on about this place but the result is it needs to be torn down. Do not stay here you are better off in a tent. The owner is also rude.

For $90 a night, I found our cabin to be a great deal. There's nothing fancy about it (although the kitchen and bath have been renovated), but all the basics are there--rustic wooden cabin, table/chairs, stove and fridge, beds, easy chair. The location on the Gunnison River is lovely as are the grounds. Our cabin was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff was friendly. The location between Gunnison and Crested Butte is perfect, too. My only real complaint is that the shower is tiny and the water pressure not so great, but we we managed.

The cabin was dusty and dirty. I think the only thing that was cleaned for our arrival was the bathroom because thankfully that was cleaner than the rest of the cabin. The musty scent of mildew almost knocked me over when I first opened the door. We had to go back into Gunnison and purchase Lysol, a scented candle and a room deodorizer. The utensils, dishes, pots & pans needed to be washed before we were able to use them. The extra towels, toilet paper, trash can liners, etc. were all stored inside a panel van parked on the property. When I visited the van to obtain "clean" towels, I noticed there were several mouse traps (including one big enough to capture a NY Rat) set out on the floorboard. Ahhh!!! The bath towels and dish towels were threadbare, bleach stained (at least they use bleach) and looked worse than the old towels I use to wash my car. The property owners/managers were not friendly and did not seem to care about their patrons. Although the owner/manager walked passed my cabin several times during my stay there while I was seated outside (so I could breath fresh air) I was never ackowledged much less receive a "Good morning/good afternoon/good evening". When I reserved the cabin I did not expect a luxury 5 star resort, but I did expect some care and pride taken by the owners. However, it seems the owners do not care if you are there, if your needs are met since it appears that there are some people who will stay anywhere and be happy with whatever treatment they receive at whatever cost. Those people will be happy staying at the Lost Canyon Resort....they don't care about where they rest their heads and the people at Lost Canyon don't care about you, just your money. I would sleep in my car before I ever stayed at this place again.

Lost Canyon Resort is certainly not the Ritz and that's what made it so wonderful. The cabins are clean and simple; the view of the river is priceless. There's nothing fancy about the place, which is what makes it so unique. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely return.
