I think this site is the best in all of Bridgeport. It has a great location and is situated under lots of trees. You can hear the creek from your cabin. I just wish the lady who runs the place would put a little money back into it. I've been going there for fifteen years and nothings changed. The beds are awful and the towels she gives you looks like she uses them to dry her car. She should also try to smile once in a while.
I have been vacationing at Doc & Al's now for over 20 years. We have introduced many of our friends to this beautiful location in the Sierra's. We have always been taken care of very well by Julie and her staff. We also love this location for it's close proximaty to many great fishing spots that are within 10 miles of our cabin. The campgrounds and cabins are always clean and neat. I have introduced Doc & Al's and the Bridgeport area to my 2 stepsons over the past 5 years and they trruely love the experience. I have rolled over my cabin reservations for many years now and hope to continue for many more years. I just returned yesterday from a 5 nite stay and I am already getting excited about next years trip.
This was one of my husband's and my most favorite vacation spots - and in all honesty - don't get more cabins, as it would just be another crowded place to go. We had to move out of state, but haven't yet found a place as peaceful, quiet, easy going and clean with such nice folks to run it and we're in PA - We went to D&A three times when we lived in CA and my brother and parents told us about it, they had gone at least 4 times - my Dad has past, but he, my mom and brother loved it - Don't change a thing - and stay as wonderful as you are, I hope someday we can come back - I really, really miss Doc & Al's - We always got the same little cabin on the river in the middle of May - we met some nice people and created many wonderful memories. If you are looking for just a quiet, peaceful place, this is it - nothing fancy, and all you have to do is bring your groceries, and fishing pole - sunscreen and leave the stress at home. The cabins are clean, the managers and workers are so friendly, but not intrusive - what a place!!!!
We used to stay here for our anniversary for a week - and we hated to leave. We rented one of the cabins right on the creek and enjoyed every single minute we were there. We had to move to the East Coast and there is NOTHING like this beautiful area. We used to camp at King's Canyon also. I'm a native of CA, so I really miss the peace and space of camping, and the simplicity of staying at Doc & Al's - they always treated us so well - I keep hoping someday we'll get to go back.
My husband has been going to Doc and Al's with his family since he was a baby. He got me hooked on going three years ago. We're heading up tomorrow to stay for a week with our babies and we can't wait. Doc and Al's provides the perfect location to enjoy Bridgeport, Bodie, and all of the beautiful landscape that surrounds it. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
I have been going to Doc & Als for at least 30 years. I have been tent camping, rented their trailers, and used our motorhome. All have been great. I love that you have access to so many rivers and lakes from this spot. We have fished most of the rivers and lakes between here and Yosemite. There are lots of little lakes all through the Sierras that you can get to in a very short time. If we only go for a few days, we usually just fish the river next to Doc & Als for part of the trip and fish Twin lakes for the other. We do love it there.
I am 56 and can remeber being at Doc & Al's when I was 10. In all these years and all my travels around the world, Doc & Al's is still the place I am the most comfortable, relaxed and at peace. It is small and homey, rarely crowded (well Fourth of July can be busy) and on some great trout waters. Juliann is just adorable and kind. Don't change a thing.
We take a family vacation every year to Doc and Al's. Just got back from our annual trip and i was so sad to leave. Love the cabins, rustic and very out doorsy... if you are a spa/resort kinda person this is not for you. We have about 20 people that go each year and about 25% are children, very kid friendly and the wildlife is amazing! cant wait till next year to go again!!!
For the past 10+ years we have been coming to Doc & Al's in the fall. We rent one of the cabins near the Robinson's creek and the changing color's of the aspens is amazing. Some times at night the mule dear with their babies come by looking for berries. The location is great. Not to far from town and not to far from the fishing lakes and streams. Not to many people and the weather can change in minutes . The staff are great people and very professional. They have a very personable manner and willing to help at a moments notice. What I dislike about Doc and Al's is I have to wait a whole year to come back.
