We've been on and off going to Doc and Al's since we found it on a cold September night in 1981. They made room for us and welcomed us in spite of a late arrival! The best expression of a true family resort. Our children grew up appreciating a true Sierra adventure. The fishing gear is laid in, our few essentials ready (they have all we ever need) and we leave for our Anniversary and our rebirth, free of care and happy that some good things remains in life for us, notably Julie's hospitality and the beauty of the ridges and valley. Just the best place in the world.
My brother an I have been visiting the Bridgeport area since 1955.We used to stay at the Leavitt Meadows Lodge until it was shut down. Then,in 1995,we discovered Doc "n Al's.What a wonderful place. We now go there anually with our children and grandchildren and wouldn't go anywhere else.Juli and the rest of the staff are always friendly and helpful. It's the most relaxing place on earth.
The first time I came to Doc n Al's I was 4 years old. Forty years later I'm bringing my children and their friends and families here. The place is a little older, but it's still the same. Every year we come it's a homecoming and I for one wouldn't go anywhere else. Our memories will last a lifetime. Trailers and cabins are well stocked, tent areas are clean, and it's affordable. The only problem with this place is going home. =) I can't wait to go again!
I USE TO GO TO DOC AND AL'S BACK IN THE 60'S UP UNTIL THE LATE 70'S. IN FACT MY MOTHER USE TO WORK CLEANING THE CABINS FOR A FEW YEARS WHEN LOIS AND LYNNE OWNED THE PLACE. I MOST OUT EAST AND HAVE'NT BEEN BACK BUT IT HOLDS THE BEST MEMORIES I HAVE OF ENJOYING THE OUTDOORS AND FISHING. I JUST HAPPENED TO FIND THIS WEBSITE AND WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IF DOC AND AL'S IS STILL AS IT WAS 25 YEARS AGO.
This was one of my husband's and my most favorite vacation spots - and in all honesty - don't get more cabins, as it would just be another crowded place to go. We had to move out of state, but haven't yet found a place as peaceful, quiet, easy going and clean with such nice folks to run it and we're in PA - We went to D&A three times when we lived in CA and my brother and parents told us about it, they had gone at least 4 times - my Dad has past, but he, my mom and brother loved it - Don't change a thing - and stay as wonderful as you are, I hope someday we can come back - I really, really miss Doc & Al's - We always got the same little cabin on the river in the middle of May - we met some nice people and created many wonderful memories. If you are looking for just a quiet, peaceful place, this is it - nothing fancy, and all you have to do is bring your groceries, and fishing pole - sunscreen and leave the stress at home. The cabins are clean, the managers and workers are so friendly, but not intrusive - what a place!!!!
Our family has been coming to Doc & Al's since 1970, same cabin, same week, every year. I used to tell my father that I'd bring my kids and that is exactly what we've done, my two brothers and their families. The fishing is excellent, atmosphere is western and outdoors, the tent and RV sites are grassy, the cabin sites are a dusty but with large decks that face the creek. Rates are very reasonable, campers are friendly and love to share stories of Bridgeport and brag about how many years they've been coming.
Need to knows: Cell and internet service is non-existent once you get to Doc & Al's. If you must get cell service just drive 3 miles back toward town by The Hunewell Ranch, if you need internet, the library opens at 10am and you can access for free with a small fee for copies. The only place that faxes out is the Auto Parts store at the east end of town. Everyone is helpful cause they have nothing else to do.
The cabins are not equipt with coffee makers or bath necessities so bring your own. Firewood is at a premium and you cant cut trees in a National Forest and you'll get tired of pine cone fires.
Our family will always come here. My daughter, 8 years old, just told me tonight (what prompted me to write), that she had so much fun at Doc & Al's that she was making me "promise" to go again. Mostly she enjoys the family time, but Doc & Al's sets the stage so families can build memories generation after generation, tradition upon tradition.
I loved the atmosphere, it was absoultely peaceful! Great place for family vacations. The Staff was very accomidating and helpful! They could use a few more cabins, so more people could visit. My family and I ,vacation here every year and we can never get enough of this place!!
I think this site is the best in all of Bridgeport. It has a great location and is situated under lots of trees. You can hear the creek from your cabin. I just wish the lady who runs the place would put a little money back into it. I've been going there for fifteen years and nothings changed. The beds are awful and the towels she gives you looks like she uses them to dry her car. She should also try to smile once in a while.
Perfect base camp for trips to Twin Lakes Bridgeport, Bridgeport Resevoir and of course the Virginia Lakes. cabins are well maintained, reasonably priced and tidy. Staff is helpful and friendly.
I and a few of my favorite friends make it up here every May and October for years and years and years......plus a few family trips in between.
Nestled on the shore of Bridgeport Reservoir, at 6,500 feet elevation, in the beautiful Eastern Sierra, this full service RV
park provides 38 full hookup sites that will accommodate awnings and slide outs. The park also features tent and ...
