Much better than I expected
Despite reading the negative reviews on this site, I made reservations for a 2-night stay with some trepidation but came away quite pleased. The lodge itself was inviting (and dinner in the restaurant was quite good) and my cabin, #6, was clean, cozy and comfortable. And there were plenty of plug outlets! The cabin itself wouldn't merit a one-star AAA rating, but it was fine for what it was and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. It definitely had more character than the bland, cookie-cutter motel rooms you'll find in South Fork, about 15 minutes down the road, but I'll admit it's not for everyone. If you're a whiner and demand Marriott-like appointments every time you travel, like a jetted tub, thick towels, flat-screen TV and 600-thread count sheets, you'll be absolutely miserable. If you simply want to relax and unwind in a clean, rustic setting, you'll be very comfortable. The staff was friendly and accommodative, but not overly so. Cottonwood Cove is probably best for families with young kids, not for those looking to book a romatic getaway or concerned about only staying somewhere that has the latest designer furnishings.
