Disappointng customer service
Our family has had our family reunions here for the past four years. We rent the large house at the end of the property, closest to the lake. We have so many great memories from our stays at Candlewick! The kids especially love watching for the waterfall at the back of the big house to come on at 9:00AM. The house is large and comfortable with 1 very large bedroom and two smaller bedrooms. The hot tub at the pool has been out of order the past two years, but that's easy to overlook with so many activities to enjoy on the lake! They used to have good customer service.
However, those great memories were tainted with very disappointing customer service in July 2011, the year Grand Lake had the Toxic Blue Green Algae Blooms. We called the resort to get information about the Blue Green Algae bloom, they informed us the Grand River Dam Authority had issued "no bodily contact warning" They also informed us, that if we chose to cancel we would not be held responsible for the weeks rental (due to the BGA bloom) but, we would loose our deposit of 500.00.
Our families talked it over and decided to go ahead and call to cancel our reservation.
About a week after our cancelled reservation week , Candlewick charged our credit card over 2,000 dollars! When we called to inform them of their mistake, they told us how much money they had lost due to cancellations and they were not able to help us! We would have been staying many more years at Candlewick until we were misled and mistreated after many years of being easy to please, and faithful guests.
Beware, Grand Lake has BGA issues! BGA can and will happen again with little rain and too much animal waste.
