Wow what a great place to spemd a family vacation. We just spent two weeks there and the people that own and work there made us feel like we were old friends. The pot luck dinners are amazing it is a nice time to meet fellow campers and the food was yummy expecially the fish. We rented a pontoon while we were there and the prices are the best on the lake (we checked around before we went down) We really enjoyed the time on the lake. The kids had a blast riding on the tubes. We are planning on making this a tradional vacation. I want my kids to grow up with the memories of making new friends, spending time with family in a great summer resort. I also hope to slip away with my hubby for our time fishing weekend this fall. : ) Oh did I forget to tell you the fishing is great!
To say the least I was very unhappy with the cleanliness of our cabin (#9). From the looks of it, it seemed decent enough until my son dropped something by the couch, which I went to go clean and the towel got hold of something underneath, which we believe was a dried up piece of chicken. After that we looked under it and there was more chicken, food, toys, bugs, dirt, etc... Then we checked the beds and there was an empty juice box & gatorade bottle. I also looked in the kitchen cabinets to see some kind of bug feces next to my plates that we were supposed to eat off of for a week. So, after the first night I brought it up to the owners and wanted a refund, but they were not willing to give us anything back (except for the $50 for the boat propeller). I specifically lifted up the one couch and showed her how dirty it was. She did accommodate and "tried" to clean it while we went out to the lake for the day. We came back looked under the couches and still the same gatorade bottle and bugs were under there. So, my husband got on his hands and knees and cleaned it himself. I started putting the kid’s clothes into the drawers and found a paper plate filled with cigarette ashes and a butt. I still was willing to look past it, but I had enough when I found bugs crawling in our beds after the 3rd night. (after a couple days, we killed and counted 13 bugs) We went to a different resort on Wednesday night and it was IMMACULATE and I was very happy with the way they helped us out - thank you Hummingbird Hideway for saving what was left of our vacation. We also rented their pontoon boat which they claim as "new", but it happened to be new to them, not brand new. They didn't want us to fish off of it (which we didn’t') to avoid getting dirt/worms on the carpeting, but I find it funny how I'm supposed to let my 11 month old crawl around on the floor with algae growing on it. The boat was so "new" that when my brother-in-law sat in the captain's seat the screws popped off and the chair fell off. I mentioned this to her as we were leaving that night and when I went to check out she said her husband told her not to give us the $50 back as they claim were were "rough housing" on it and the only way that would happen is if we stood on the chair. My in-laws were with us that day and I find it funny that's what she thinks of us. I also mentioned the bugs to her and she said "well you are in the woods and you are going to have bugs". Funny how the other resort we stayed in had NOTHING and it was right up the road from them. I wait all year to enjoy a relaxing and clean place to stay and this was anything but. PLEASE STAY at Hummingbird Hideaway, not here!
the place was nice i give it thatbut the service sucked the blonde lady i cant remember her name was rude very rude and the lady with the curly hair did nothing but yell and cuss at the little girl. we asked for towels and were told to go find them our selves. i think they should be polite to their customers!
Nice. clean cabins and reasonable place to stay. In todays times you have to save money where you can. Family vacations are the one thing I do not want to do with out. Blackburns offers everything for the whole family. Fishing , Swimmiing, lots of playgounds. We have a wonderful time everytime we go it is clean good fun for the family. Building memories is what it is all about. We try to come down twice every year and with their prices we can do it
This is a great anytime fishing place to stay that is reasonable and comfortable. The people are wonderful and Steve will let you know where to go to find the fish. Summertime at Blackburns is great for the whole family. The wonderful potlucks on Wednesday NOBODY frys fish better than Steve. The pool and playyard, basketball court, soccer ,tetherball, volleyball, boat rentals and covered pavillons give everybody in the family something to do. The cabins are older but very clean. The prices are the best on the lake and I truly believe that the people that own and operate Blackburns are the finest people in the world. Everytime we leave we can't wait to get back.
My wife and I stayed at Blackburns Resort for the first time this spring. We have visited the area many times and stayed at different resorts. The fishing (thanks to Steve's advise) was great. The cabins were clean and well stocked. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and very friendly. We will definitely be back.
called for resevations were told week to week when the website day to day the lady week talked to was very rude and foul mouthed said they did not need our business and to find some place else. We did we found a place right next door they even gave us a discount since the the other place was rude. So i say before you make reservations whth them shop around because price isnt everything attitude is alot.
We are very disappointed with Blackburn's resort. We had a reservation with them for 4th of July week and then our home was suddenly devastated by the flooding in Indiana on June 7. We were basically homeless and canceled our trip. We asked for a refund for our deposit as they were able to rent out our cabin and they weren't out any money. Not only did they refuse but they rudely told us to "get a job and earn some money". Obviously they don't care about the flood victims or people in general. My husband has a job but they don't have a clue what is involved after a flood that takes your home away. We had so looked forward to our trip here but they don't seem like the kind of people that care about their guests. I'd think twice before coming to Blackburns.
When I'm fishin I like the peace and quiet that the resort offers. However, I still have the wireless internet to allow me to check my email and websites to communicate back home. There's also cable tv in the rooms to watch my favorite shows & check the scores of the ball games. Some cabins have more than one tv with cable and dvd's so the kids can watch their shows too.
The Wednesday night fish frys are a fun way to mingle with the folks. The owner cooks the fish himself and the few people who say they don't even like fish LOVED the fish at the fish fry! What a nice family they are. Sad to see this site allow a personal attack, they are so kind and generous.
we stayed here last fall and just loved the place. They were always there to help out and to give fresh towels and the pool was great and refreshing. They even showed us some really great fishing spots on the lake. Who could forget the fish fry in the middle of the week. I know these memories will be with my little girl forever and we have already made plans to return this fall. Worth the little money we spent for a lifetime of memories. Thanks
