November 2010 - Review
By Todd, 12/5/10
We stayed there over Thanksgiving week this year (2010). We had a two bedroom right on the lake. We're a family of five (kids - 6,4,2) and it was a little cramped. You had to move the dining room table to pull out the sleeper sofa (as an example). I would describe it as rustic. No amenities except a soda machine and a clubhouse with a computer for internet and a table for book reading. Our unit needed updating especially the flooring (linoleum). I believe this place was built around 25 years ago and the unit we were in showed it. With that being said, the kids didn't know the difference and enjoyed climbing the hill next to the road, feeding the ducks in the lake and if we brought our poles I'm sure would've liked fishing in the stocked lake. The location is good, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway and a mile from Blowing Rock, and 10 miles from Boone. It is a good launching pad for the sites in the area. I would have preferred to stay in Chetola but you gotta go with what's available from II. Hope this helps.

Is it time yet?!?!
By Beth, 4/21/10
We first stayed here last year. Our first impression was one of, "Oh goodness! What DID we get ourselves into!!!" After a day or so of fishing, fresh air, walking the trails and meeting other guests, we decided we were hooked! No, it's not pretty, but it's rustic and comfortable. It is the only place I have seen my husband TOTALLY relax and able to forget about work!!! Our son enjoyed the stocked pond and the fact that he could go gem mining down the hill at Tweetsie. As for me, I enjoyed the crafts and businesses around Boone and Blowing Rock. We can't wait to go back again this year...and every year!!!!

Diamond In The Rough
By Splinded Splinter, 12/21/09
Beautiful setting next to Blue Ridge Parkway! We love the large rustic cabins and fishing. We caught some three to four pound Rainbow trout! Five minutes from ski resort and Tweetsie Railroad. Why pay over a hundred dollars for a motel room when you can stay in a cabin for less! We loved it! Bought a week here so we can come back each year! The price for a week of ownership is very cheap!

Nice outside, dumpy inside
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/09
Location is very nice and the setting is beautiful (lawns, pond), BUT there are some real drawbacks. When we checked in we found the unit had a strong odor of mold-mildew and urine. From the scratch marks along the window panes, I suspect animals, perhaps rats or raccoons, had been trapped in the unit during the winter. Also the carpet was very old and coming up at places, exposing sharp nails. The furniture was strictly thrift store quality, complete with non-stop dripping faucets, old brown and green 1970's couch with no spring left, and a toilet with a messed up flush mechanism. 'Rustic' is hardly the right word to describe the accommodations, I think 'resort slum' is a better fit. Last point was that there were blue rings on the sinks indicating copper in the water (which tasted very metallic), so if you bring children remember to also bring water to drink as copper usually also means lead is present (I got blank a look from the manager when I mentioned this).

Looking forward every year
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/20/07
We, as Florida residents, look forward to the wonderful temperature change. Although we have the 47th week, we usually get to enjoy the foliage changes as we progress north, and then up the mountain.Great shopping for unique Christmas gifts.

Lovely cabin tucked in the woods next to the parkway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/15/07
I have been to Swiss mountain several times. There is so much I like about the resort. First the location is great. It is next to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and within a mile or two of Blowing Rock. It is also close to Boone. At the resort there is a trout pond for fishing. Most of the cabins are in the woods. It is beautiful to sit on the deck and enjoy nature. Inside the units is a large stone fireplace. Gas logs are provided. There is a kitchen with a washer and dryer included, which is great if you go skiing in the winter. The staff has always been nice. I've been here in the summer and winter and it was enjoyable both times. The resort does not have a lot bells and whisles. But if you enjoy a quiet location but near everything this place is for you.

COMFORTABLE, MOUNTAIN SETTING, WITH GREAT LOCATION ON THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY. OVERLOOKS SMALL STOCKED LAKE, FIREPLACE WITH GAS HEAT. RUSTIC BUT WITH ALL THE NECESSITIES.
