Great Place Unless There's a Problem
We stayed in a beautiful cabin also. However, the first morning our hot water heater went out. We called the office and were told that a maintenance man would be there shortly. We asked if we could move or use the shower in another cabin so that we could get on with our plans, but they said no. Still waiting, we had to call back twice before someone finally came. The maintenance man was apologetic, in fact he was probably the nicest staff member we met while there, the hot water heater was fixed, but by the time the water had heated and we were able to get everyone showered, the morning was gone. Day 2 was fine, but that night our kids went swimming in the pool and found feces. We reported it to the desk clerk who seemed unfazed and said it would be cleaned up in the morning, but our kids did not want to use the pool after that. Day 3 we woke up to no water whatsoever. By this point, we felt we were due some compensation for the problems with our visit, and the time taken from our vacation. We were given a $100 gift card that could be used towards a future visit or for tickets to attractions that they sold in the office (we could only choose from attractions that the resort sold tickets to). Well, if you know Pigeon Forge, attractions aren't cheap, and there were 9 of us, so $100 didn't go far. By 5pm, the water was on, but had to run for awhile to clear out the debris, (however, the water never did become totally clear). Coming home hot and tired, and still not able to shower because of the debris in the water, we called the office again. They offered us another $65 in compensation, or the chance to move to another cabin. We checked out the other cabins: they were at the bottom of the resort, had smaller beds or a smaller commons area, and did not have the mountain view that our current cabin had (and the resort didn't say they would compensate us for the difference in price for the cabins they were offering we could move to). So after much discussion, we decided that the time invested in moving everything to another cabin (after all the time we had already lost on our vacation because of cabin issues),and the fact that we would be losing our mountain view, and the money we would be losing by paying the same rate for a cheaper cabin was not worth it at this point. They said the water issues were fixed, we only had 2 more nights, so we stayed in our original cabin. Well guess what---the next morning we woke up---no hot water. Another call, another delay in our plans, but the maintenance man did get there more quickly and fixed the hot water heater. They did give us a $65 refund, so our total compensation for 3 days of cabin issues (out of 4 days we stayed) and time lost from our vacation was $165 (our total bill for the time we stayed was $1000). Never were we able to talk with the manager--even though we asked that she personally call us or come see us at the cabin. The staff would call her and relay her messages to us via phone. Needless to say, we won't be going back.
