Very quiet location, just a few miles from Amicalola Falls. The cabin was clean, but it did show its age. We loved the hot tub and the fire place-they even provided firewood each night.
Breakfast and dinner were included with the package and the meals were excellent! All were homemade and much better than most any restaurant.
Bottom line: a great place for a quite getaway!
My friends recommended Forrest Hills Resort as a great place to get away and unwind -- with plenty of waterfalls and activities in the area. After going to Yahoo and viewing a couple of the comments, I have to admit that we were a little concerned.
We were pleasantly surprised -- and estatic. The luxury cottage that we stayed in was 'To Die For'. It was private cottage in the forest, somewhat secluded but yet within easy reach of civilization. The mattress was the best ever, and our cottage had an indoor hot-tub spa just off of the bedroom.
We relaxed the first day and then the second day we went to the Gold Mine and Kangaroo Farm. On Sunday, we relaxed and then extended our stay by another day to take in more activities.
Must Do's -- The Anidawehi Spa is located on-site at Forrest Hills Resort. Brian gave me the best sports massage ever - be sure to ask for him. The Restaurant is excellent -- but also be sure to go to the Corkscrew Restaurant in Dahlonega. Be sure to visit Amicalola Falls and Edge of The World Falls.
In closing, some of the people who have visited this place must have had other issues that made their visit to Forrest Hills Resort less than desirable. Our visit was good and we found this to be a Fantastic Find.
A hampton inn with a few candles would be more romantic and a heck of a llot cleaner.
Below is the note I sent the "resort":
I am sure you have seen the room that you call a romantic getaway. We stayed in B&B 1 and after entering the room quickly realized the room was far from a "resort". The next morning I asked the ladies at the front for an upgrade and was give the room key to #4. Upon checking this room and being told I would have to pay more, I opted to save the already "wasted" money and keep the dilapidated room I was in. The room has a hole in the wall, shower is sinking from the roof and has cracked floor, toilet seat is bubbling and disgusting, both chairs were broke, light did not work unless tapped glass bulb, and the overall appearance of the room was dirty. On top of all that it was a two night stay for a one night wedding. At this point, I will never stay with your hotel again and will make sure to let others know through on-line ratings that it is far less than a hotel.
To say the least, I am very disappointed and feel like I was misinformed per internet about the accommodations.
I was looking for a spot to take my wife for a romantic 30th anniversary weekend getaway. This resort has all the right amenities, but it lacks sorely in its execution. In general, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful,,, they just don't have the staff to support the features they offer. We stayed in Cupid #6. The cabin was secluded and looked great...everything their web site advertises. The roses I ordered looked beautiful and the chocolates were delicious. But...although the Sparkling Wine I ordered was in the room...it was not chilled or iced (warm actually). Ordered the cheese tray but we did not receive it (they refunded cost on check-out). Hot tub water was not clean, jets and intakes were covered in fluffy brown algae.. so we could not use. Room had a bad mildew smell that made sleeping difficult, and the smell inside the cabinets was especially bad. Windows stuck badly...and between the windows and screens it was filthy and buggy...so difficult to air the room out. Door to deck was also covered with dead bugs (on outside). Room had a noisy dehumidifier that we ran 24/7 and I emptied 5 full buckets during our 2 day stay. No phones in room...didn't care or want. 3 TV channels...did not care or want. :-) Ironing board in room, but no iron! Poorly stocked kitchenette (did not need anyway). The bathroom faucet ran below a trickle...but ran great after I cleaned out the screen (why didn't staff make sure this was working?). The food and atmosphere in the couples dining room was great...but...first timers are not informed how the buffet works...you have to figure it out for yourself...they need a greeter or at a minimum a sign with directions. The entree's ran out and were not re-filled, so we learned from first meal...get there early.. and fill your plate (I apologize to those that followed us for the poorer selection). Drinks (iced tea/coffee/etc) were slow in coming (1/2 done with meal before receiving). Corn on the cob and fresh biscuits were served with dinner one night...but NO butter or margarine was out! Had to grab salt and pepper from another table. Breakfast was always excellent but did not start until 8:30...pretty late for early risers headed out to sightsee...and coffee has to be ordered from staff...it really should be out on a table for self-service before the door opens. Also ordered the picnic lunch.. but it was made up and left on the counter in the lobby...meat was room temperature when we picked up at 11:45...they really need to keep basket chilled until picked up to keep meats and salads fresh (wife got sick after lunch...cause unknown?). We also used the Spa facility for couples massage training.. no complaints there...it was awesome. They have a comments sheet which I filled out in detail...but the staff took the 2 pages I wrote without so much as a comment or question about what I wrote, and after 2 weeks I have received no follow-up from them. Summary: Great place for romantic getaway...IF...staff can get their act together and take care of the little details (which one expects for the price)...if only a few things we would not have cared...but there were so, so many. Next time we’re in the area, we’ll stay down the road at the Amicalola State Park Lodge.
