Fun old cabins!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/6/12
I enjoyed staying up at the cabin1 It is old but nice and the folks that run it are accomadating. It is very peaceful and a great getaway. $85 a nite is steap but it's worth it.

Manager's Review
By Cindy Moore, 9/27/09
Hello, I am the manager for Seven Oaks Mountain Cabins. In response to the post on 8/24/2009, I would like to make a comment. When we took over the cabins a few years ago, the funishings were completely unacceptable. The beds were about 40 years old, the showers were made from tin and a wood plank for the floor. The love sofas had mice nests in them and the overall condition of the cabins were horrific. The lodge was shut down as it was rat infested. When I found this place and rented cabin 5, I could not get myself to take a shower for 2 days. But we fell in love with the place and a year later my sister bought it. One of the first things we did was put in new showers, new refrigerators and water heaters. We turned off all the wall heaters as they were unsafe and put in portable electric heaters. We have since put in new beds, new blankets, electric blankets and comforters, new sheets, towels and futons or day beds. We also include microwave ovens now. We had the futons just one month when people broke them. They are not cheap and we have so much more to do, we decided we wouldn't replace them until other things have been taken care of. At least they are clean and not mouse infested. We have been putting in new tile flooring in all the kitchens and bathrooms. A cost of 300.00 per kitchen just for materials. The cabins are not only cleaned but sterilized after each use. I do "spring and fall" cleaning which includes polishing up the walls and ceilings. Which is what I was referring too when she complained of some cobwebs that I still haven't found. There is still a lot to be done, but people who have been coming here before we took over have been very pleased with the work that my sister and I have done. The lodge is open, all cleaned out with a new ping pong table and fuse ball table. We keep sonic rodent deterents in the cabins which have helped tramendously with them. However, we do live in a forest full of them and it is impossible for anyone living here or our neighbors to keep them at bay 100%. I think this lady got upset with me when she told me she didn't think she'd be coming back and I said that's fine. These cabins are rustic, almost 90 years old now, and I told her it's not for everyone. We are inspected by all the governments that we are subject too and keep in compliance with them. Oh, my dogs? Humm,, I live alone and my two dogs are not only my companions, but my protectors too! People ask me, "Aren't you afriad to live alone in the mountians?" I tell them no, I am very happy here and feel completely safe with my dogs at my feet when I have to answer the door. We are pet friendly here and we allow up to two dogs per cabin. We will continue to make improvements and hope everyone has a wonderful time here at Seven Oaks Mountain Cabins. Thank you, Cindy

Huge, dirty disappointment!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/25/09
Let me just start by saying that I grew up in a cabin that had no electricity or running water, so I am not just a "city slicker" who was disappointed when the cabins didn't offer room service or an in-room jacuzzi tub. Also, my family and I have been visiting Seven Oaks about twice a year for the last 10 years so clearly we were pleased once upon a time. The first owners that we encountered (Kurt and Donna) ran a nice, clean, comfortably rustic, retreat from the hustle and bustle of the inland valley area. After they sold the place, things went horribly down hill, and I mean DOWN HILL. The last few times we visited left us sadly unimpressed and well, quite frankly, dirty. We continued to visit a few more times- afterall, hope springs eternal- and the quality of everything continued to plummet. This last- and final- time was beyond awful. The condition of our cabins (all of the family went so we rented cabins #5 and #9) was disgraceful. The following is a list of the more grievous offenses: Rat droppings under the blanket on the futon bed; a futon bed that was supposed to fold into a bed, but was broken and had to be held up with a rock- yes folks, a rock; occupied cobwebs in every corner of the cabin- or shed as we came to call it; food encrusted cookware; missing handles on the bathroom faucets; no less than half of the lightbulbs were burned out, thus rendering most of the lighting fixtures useless; there was a large, jagged piece of metal (supposed to be part of the door jamb) that was half ripped off and continued to gouge our legs as we went in and out of the front door; broken plastic deck chairs; the decks on both cabins are so unstable (one corner on the deck of #5 is not connected to the other corner) that the new owners are very fortunate that no one has gotten hurt (or has someone?); cabin #9 is missing a 3 inch piece of wood from the bottom of the front door, allowing mice to come and go at will- we had to chase them out and block the door with a towel and hope for the best; and finally, my personal favorite (not really) is the fact that the sheets were filthy and clearly hadn't been changed prior to us arriving at the cabin- there were pieces of something between the sheets (oh, please let it be dirt) and dirt and blood stains on the "once white" sheets. To top it all off, when we were leaving on Sunday, I went to return the keys and was "greeted' by a rude woman who opened the door 2 inches (so as to contain the many dogs inside her house). I tried to politely explain my concerns and complaints and she told me that she cleans the cabins twice a year- in the Spring and in the Fall- and that she is busy working elsewhere during the summer. (Excuse me? Did you say that you clean the cabins twice per year? That explains alot...) She also told me that it is "normal" for mice to run in and out of the cabins freely... Hmmm... I then told her that I didn't think that we would be returning (much to our dismay) and she said, "That's fine." and closed the door in my face. Were we pleased with our stay? No! As A final note, I must say that if they hired the same caliber of people to clean the cabins and keep them up as they hired to create their web page (deceptively classy) things would be just fine.

Love visitng Seven Oaks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/15/09
We have been coming to 7 Oaks since I was a child. My dad was a true fisherman and taught me to fish when I was just 5 years old. We usually went camping at Barton Flats. But every-now and then, mom wanted to stay at the cabins. They have gone through many changes since I was a child. I'm a great grandma now but I still love to visit the mountains. The new owner has really been making some wonderful changes. It got to a point where I couldn't go in the showers! But they have new showers now and new beds. WOW! Our cabin was very clean and I love the electric blankets as it's still getting down to freezing at night. The host is really nice too. We stayed again this weekend and the animals are all starting to wake up and get out of bed. I saw hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, ground squirrels and chipmunks. I even saw a little mole poking it's head out of the ground. It was so exciting to watch as the forest is waking up. We didn't see any big animals yet though. We'll be back again in a couple of months when the wild flowers are blooming. I don't fish too much anymore, but Jenks Lake is a good place to fish. However, I know you can fish in this river too. Jenks Lake has changed a lot too. You can't even swim in it anymore. As a child, me and my sisters used to swim in it every summer. As an old timer, I would highly recommend this to nature lovers. However, If you like places like the Ritz, then I wouldn't suggest coming up, as this is a place where you can't be afraid of getting down and dirty with nature.

5 Star for us!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/8/08
If you are looking for uncomplicated relaxation this is the place! The Santa Ana flows through the property, for most cabins right off the back deck. Relax, play some horseshoes, take a hike, or just sit back and enjoy nature. That's what your are offered here. We take some wine, candles, good conversation, a good book and leave everything else behind. We just got back from out 5th trip since the fall of "06". The cabins are rustic but clean. Since weve been staying there we have seen continual improvements. If you are the type that needs to be pampered you should go elsewhere. For a nice change from cooking, a little further down the road is the Seven Oaks RV and camping park. Talk about friendly people and a clean place to enjoy a beer, a little grub and good conversation with the REAL people of the mountain. Make sure you stay 2 nights to enjoy this place as well. We would highly recommend a trip to the 7 Oaks Mountain Cabins if you want to enjoy a step back in time with a few comforts of today. We're already looking forward to our next visit and the funny thing is we live in the mountains only 59 miles away!

This place is fantastic! We just loved it.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/08
This place is so remote, we didn't even know it was there and we've been coming up to the Barton Flats area for years. It is staying in the middle of the forest. Cabins where great. Very comfortable and clean.

The atmosphere was very nice. Nice and quiet, away from all the noise. Cabins are clean and comfortable. Kitchens in all cabins were nice as well. Most cabins are on the river, so the sound of the river was very relaxing. I rate it a 5 star for remote cabins.
