Ocean Luxury Lofts and Suites, Santa Monica

The location is fantastic, but that's all this place has going for it. The "reservation service" is actually just a guy on his cell phone, and there building requires a code to get into the door. After some difficulty in finding the building, we went inside and noticed the funky smells. Upon entering the room, we discovered more smells, and that it was not a "luxury suite" as described in the name of the hotel. It was quite run down, had old appliances, and a nasty couch. The leather was all cracked and ripped. Upon discovering all this, we just left. I had not given any credit card information over the phone, so I had no problem leaving. I texted the manager back and told him we'd be taking our business elsewhere and he didn't seem to be surprised. Don't get me wrong, it's very cheap, but you get what you pay for. The rest of the nicer hotels in the area run between $200-$300 per night.

After calling the phone number just to locate the hotel (and getting a simple "Hello?"), I received the front door unlock code via text message. It got sketchier when I walked into what smelled like a Chinese restaurant's back hallway. The carpeting on the stairway was stained in a way that looked like something heavy and leaky had been dragged down the hall. So I prepared myself for the worst before entering the second-floor room. It lived up to that initial gut instinct. The place is a dump. No screens on the open windows. Homeless people screaming at all hours of the night at the city bus stop just below my bedroom window. Black mold beneath the bathroom sink. Rust stains in the bathtub, to go along with the aged towels hanging on the rack and several half-empty rolls of toilet paper. I never wished I'd brought a sleeping bag to a hotel before. The second night, the bed hadn't been made, and the noise/music emanating from the floor below made sleeping impossible. So I found another hotel off Sunset. I'd sooner pay for a room out of my own pocket than stay at the Ocean Luxury Suites on an expense account.

Great hotel and best vacation in a long while. This hotel is a nice option for those with a laid back attitude. This niche hotel is an excellent choice for those who do not require the standard hotel accommodations. No front desk. All communication is done by telephone. (Texting makes it easier.) Parking is a block away. There is a night club on the first level and the rooms are on the second and third floor. That’s the down side. The upside is that the beach is across the street! My view allowed me to gaze out at the beach scene and Santa Monica Pier from our bed. Very nice! Plenty of shopping, street/farmers markets, street entertainers, dining that includes both cheap and upscale options. I parked my car and left it there the entire time because there is so much going on just within walking distance. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that is looking for a great vacation in an upscale part of town, but looking to relax on a budget. With other hotels running $350+ a night in the same area, this one was the perfect choice for me.

This was one of the neatest hotels I've stayed in, and I'm a religous customer. Anytime I'm in L.a, I aim to stay at the Ocean Luxury Suites. The views are amazing, the staff attentive, but it's still all very private. There's no front desk, you just walk in and you're room is ready. Most contact is kept via phone. We're from Vegas, so sometimes we end up with the late night cravings and there's not much to eat around there, but the small kitchen in your room is kept in great condition. Each room is set up to feel like you're at home, albeit with a heavier high-end-IKEA feel to it. Best of all though, is that you're a 30 second jog from th beach or the 3rd street promenade w/ it's clubs, bars, dining, and shopping. The only negative? Parking can be a bit of a pain, as you either have to arrive early to avoid the nightclub rush in the resteraunt below you, or park a few blocks up on broadway in the promenade's garage. All in all though, it's nice to walk into a hotel room and feel like you're at home, and really there's no other place I've stayed at that has provided that feeling. I reccomend it to all my friends, and to anyone who might come across the review. -M

I was visiting Santa Monica to see a art exibit on the beach and found this lovely hotel online. The room was larger than typical hotel rooms and my room had a great view of the ocean. Location was perfect..walked to the beach, shopping and dinning. I liked the fact that there was no formal lobby area...it felt like we had our own condo on the beach! Surprised to read the previous reviews of this place...nothing like they said.. my room was very clean and comfortable.

I recently stayed here with some friends of mine and my gf, had come out here for my gf birthday. I had booked my room prior to reading all these reviews and was expecting the worse, however, it was one of the most pleasant stays I have ever had. I had contact with an onsite manager, very pleasant female who even made my gf a basket for her birthday with a complimentary bottle of wine, even helped us with reservations around town, and was very polite and courteous throughout. There was no lobby, but there was large clean rooms (700 sq. feet) with ocean views, free internet access, and great location. I had a great time and found it to be the best value in Santa Monica thus far, I would def. stay here again.

I have questions whether this is a legitimate hotel--there is no lobby--all communication is done when you buzz in over intercom. You never see any staff. My hotel room had no soap, no shampoo, and about a quarter of a roll of toilet paper--the curtain was torn, and I found a cigarette butt stamped out in drawer in bedroom. Also, while it's located on corner of Ocean Ave--good luck trying to find a view. You have been warned---
