Tower23 is one of San Diegos newest beachfront, luxury lifestyle hotels and one of Californias most stylish and contemporary urban resorts. The hotels name is derived from the lifeguard tower 23 that perches between the ocean and the resorts front door and creates a cool haven to enjoy one of Americas finest cities. Superb Beach Gem
By Mark, 11/14/08
What a great hotel in PB. If you want to enjoy southern California at it's best come here! Watch the surfer, bikers and skateboarders pass by on the boardwalk from the comofrt of the sun deck or your balcony. Beautiful spot to watch the sunset over the pacific. And this hotel not only has the best location in town (it's only 20 minutes from downtown/convention center) but also really nice, friendly and helpful staff. Their recommendations made our stay just perfect. Thank you George and Nancy! Both were extremly professional and geniually friendly. Rare! We can't wait to come back!

What a Pleasure!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/2/08
We normally stay at 5 star or at least boutique type small hotels and this one met our expectations. Called hotel night before stay and got a better deal than the internet. Stayed in room facing ocean and listened to the waves all night. I went with my husband and 6 month old daughter, whom they had a crib for with 5* bedding, and a stuffed frog and complete set of baby toiletries all for her to keep! Had drinks and apps at the hotel bar over looking the ocean during sunset...raspberry mojitos are killer as well as anything on the menu. Later that evening had dinner at Jordan restaurant, which is not over priced at all (saw that on other reviews). We thought it was a steal for what we got, especially the 1/2 off wine bottle prices! We're big foodies and everything was really incredible. Had duck entree and braised pork shank. The creme brulee/with chocolate for dessert was to die for! Oh and the service and ambiance....a delight. Our baby sleep thru the entire dinner. Had room service for breakfast on our patio. We ordered four different things to taste....so happy with all of our experiences and the entire staff from the valets to bartenders while staying there. Worth the visit.

Family of 4, two grown boys with us
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/21/08
Well, we are very spoiled 5star type travelers, and so we also read all the reviews, negative and positive, but because we were with our two young 20ish boys, and love modern decor, this was the place to try. Very clean, comfy beds, yes-IKEA type furniture, but truly only had two complaints about the room. One, the bathroom door which slides shut, had two huge cracks either side of it when closed, so NO privacy in the bathroom! Perhaps just our room had the too narrow cut bathrm door? The walls are not soundproof...woke up at 3 in the morning to a group of young men hollering, fighting in the room next door. The 3 sleeping men in my room of course didn't wake up, just me. The restaurant JRDN on site is FABULOUS. We all agreed that it was NOT overpriced in our mind for breakfast or lunch, dinner maybe. The Chantilly cream/fruit french toast for breakfast was fantastic, and the flat iron steak dinner was by far the best steak I have ever had! I read that in another review and wow, it is really that good. We will go again, and bring our small dog next time, which they do allow. Great Location to rent bikes and travel the boardwalk.

Great Getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/3/07
Ok, I went here Nov 25-27 with my eyes open - reviews on this site were very balanced (i.e., reviewers either loved or hated this joint), whereas on other sites the reviews were about 9 good for each 1 bad. So I was aware that some had strong dislikes about Tower 23. This was a quiet Sun thru Tues getaway for my wife & I which is among the travel we've been doing this year celebrating our 28th year together. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tower 23. JRDN was a great experience with both tasty, well prepared & presented seltections coupled with solid waitstaff (our guy, Sammy, was outstanding . . . a former active duty marine with whom I, a former amphib Navy gator, swapped a lot of great memories amidst his attentive service of our table). A little pricey, but cost was not out of the question for gourmet cuisine & top notch service on the boardwalk with full table linens & an unobstructed ocean view. I agree with one critical review I saw before our stay - try to stay on the third floor (we were on the second floor in a full ocean view room . . . great view, etc. but we heard the guy above us pacing in the morning . . . and he was a VERY early riser). Aside from that, our room was very clean & modernly decorate, had a great king bed and a nice private patio where we spent hours the first evening marveling at the parasail boarders. The public areas were beautifully maintained & clean, heavily padded lounge chairs facing the beach were adorned with clean terry cloth linens each morning, and every evening the areas were lit softly coupled with gas heaters to cut the edge from the cold. Yes, next door at Kona's, you can get a massive breakfast every morning for about the same price as a side order of bacon at JRDN which, to some, that & its trendy decor would suggest Tower 23 is misplaced in PB. If it were in OB, I'd agree, but PB - from my wife & my days at SDSU almost 30 years ago until today - has always been an eclectic transition point between MB & La Jolla, having more upscale aspects of the latter interspersed with more modest aspects of the former (altho our boardwalk jogs each morning revealed much new construction on the MB boardwalk which is going well into the upscale category). MB historically was always a transition notch above OB, PB a transition notch up from MB on your segue northward to upscale La Jolla. Accordingly, Tower 23 is a taste of La Jolla while, to maintain a perfectly rounded eclectic PB experience, you can indulge the more modest at Kona next door. I would recommend this place for a romantic getaway, but its not a place for families and you gotta be nuts to come here for business (go stay somewhere inland where you won't be distracted by the beach). This is a place to relax.

Made a point to work it into our budget.... I felt like I was at home, a way better version of it thouugh.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/07
Quite and cozy, the beds! And mango margeritas!!! Falling asleep listining to the ocean was like a dream. Too modern for my taste, however, that is a huge part of the allure of Tower 23. I could not make up a negative comment about my experiences here. The staff has always been extremely freindly and inviting. I feel spolied every time I am lucky enough to stay here. Thanks.

\"its like visiting IKEA store\"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/12/07
Their website make it appear that it is a "Zen like place," but in actuality, their furnitures are IKEA like, service is not like what you expect in big hotels. Staff is unpfofessional especially the front desk. The views of the beach is not what you think, yo need to reserve a $600 dollar room to get that veiw. If I were you you can spend your $300 elswhere.

Amazing place to stay
By Brent F 407, 6/27/07
This is an amazing hotel that is right on Pacific Beach in San Diego, CA that has everything to offer for an amazing romantic weekend getaway. The hotel has a modern contemporary feel with an amazing ambiance. The hotel has excellent customer service, an amazing atmosphere, and is centrally located within walking distances to most of Pacific Beaches restaurants and bars. The room has great features including Plasma HD TVs, XBOX with free game rentals, soundproof sliding glass doors (room felt sound proof). Excellent restaurant called JRDN located in hotel and can be brought as room service. Ignore the other negative comments as they are old and outdated!

i do not recommend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/7/05
don't go here..place is overrated, you wait in line forever..poor customer service. keep in mind you're in PB..place doesn't belong there..the crowd is a little upscale..but like i say, it doesn't fit in PB. they treat it like a bar in downtown. just go to downtown, don't go here.
