The right place for certain travelers
It ain't the Sofitel, but if you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay in the Clearwater area, and you're not concerned with fanciness, this place is a decent bet, especially if you're staying for a week or longer. The efficiency style rooms are relatively spacious, and the kitchen has with two fridges, a sink, a coffee maker, and a stove with pots and pans. A/C for the room is handled by a window unit that was plenty powerful, even in the 90+ degree FL spring. The room was clean with the exception of the floor. The pool was heated and clean, and sported several types of birds in the mornings -we saw ducks, cranes, a pelican, and a pidgeon.
Weekly rates are quite affordable, and the kitchen allows you to save some scratch on food. The decor is reminiscent of Atomic era motels, and there are some cool places to eat within walking distance (Ted's and the Skinny Rooster). As for the negatives: There were several cigarette burns in our comforter, stains on one of the pillowcases that looked like blood, the towels are tiny and rough, the ice machine takes your quarter but delivers only a single cube of ice (seriously), the TV channel guide bore no relation to the actual channels, and the vending machine contained only three bags of sun-faded Fritos. I think most of these kinds of things are funny, but if you don't, you should stay somewhere else. However, next time I'm visiting Clearwater, I'll probably stay at the same place.
