Shady
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/25/11
What an awful experience!! The place itself is not great, closes early and you need a key to get back in the hotel after 10pm. But what is really shady is that when we checked in we paid most of it in cash and the rest on my friends credit card. When I got home they charged my credit card for the full amount! With proof of receipts and speaking to management at least 10 times, they would still not credit my credit card!!! Now I have to go through the process of disputing my claim through my credit card company! DO NOT GO HERE...and if you do - def DO NOT PAY CASH!

Don't waste your money!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/6/11
I don't even know where to begin, but what I can tell you is after reading the other reviews, I find it hard to believe the ones that boast about this place. We stayed for 4 days at the hotel and even considered spending our vacation fun money to go to another hotel. We flew over 2k miles and had hoped it would be a wonderful vacation, but this hotel was awful. The staff is rude, management is horrible and I didn't realize that we would be insulted by the night desk guy. We booked out a large portion of the hotel with other family members. They closed the bar & restaurant down early every night. A server yelled at me for not having my "key" even though only one was issued, and the person I was sharing my room with had gone to bed. Warned me that next time I would end up sleeping outside! Like it is my fault that they are all unwilling to stay open later than 10pm. otherwise- good luck getting back in the hotel. I could go on forever, but you get my drift. The hotel, although cute as a concept, was not up to the price or service you pay for! Don't be fooled! Book at the hotel up the street! Just call around to some of the local businesses- they'll tell you the same thing!

We chose this hotel as our wedding get-away and we absolutely loved everything about it! What a beautiful location, the room was perfect, staff was more than friendly and made our stay unforgettable. Thank you and we will definitely be back again!

THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS DISHONEST AND UNETHICAL
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/18/09
The owners of this establishment do not pay their employees. They keep them off the books and dispute hours worked. They threaten job security when demeaning tasks are not completed, including WASHING THE FLOOR ON ONE'S HANDS AND KNEES. I quit this job because bartending there was just that dehumanizing, and I have not received a paycheck from the establishment. Please do not patronize Grayl's Hotel.

Do not recommend
By Christine, 3/20/08
Broken door knobs, a clerk who didn't have a clue, tacky rooms, the place was under renovation. One of our rooms was accross from a pub (Noisy) and the other room was next to the parking garage which had bright lights all night long. It was a very unpleasant stay.

Won't go back
By ElishaC, 8/21/07
I had such high hopes for this place! As I got close to the hotel and called about parking and was told that there were a limited number of parking spaces out front and that it was a "first come, first served" basis. Then they said that I could pay $10 to park in the lot behind the hotel. Well being a Friday night, I had no other choice. The parking lot was unattended (no security) and didn't feel completely safe. To get to the hotel you had to walk all the way around the block either thru an alley or on the street---no easy access from the lot. The lady checking in was nice, but the rest of the staff left a lot to be desired. The room was average---seemed like they couldnt decide on a theme, so it was country eclectic. It was clean, but the bed wasnt overly comfy like you think of when going to a hotel. Next day I called and asked for a late check out and they wanted to charge me $25 for another hour. I had one of the corner suites and had already paid more ($225+) than I should, and thought that another dollar to them was ridiculous. After check out, we walked around the area and before we left, I buzzed (you have to be buzzed in or have a key) the front desk to use the restroom before our 2+ hour drive. The lady told me to go next door to the restaurant, even though I had just checked out that morning. Thought it was very rude and not worth the time and money.

Excellent Historic Place To Stay For Anyone
By jessica m, 9/19/06
I loved the location- within walking distace of the St Pete nightlife, and also the daytime attractions such as the restaurants, shopping, and the Peir. The interior is so elaborately decorated you feel like royalty sleeping here. The staff is as cuteous as can be, and offer a full continental breakfast with tons of healthy on-the-go options as you're leaving in the morning. The Hotel sits right by the water's edge, adn the King Suite at the front has a beautiful view. The four-poster king sized beds are incredibly comfortable, and the amneties make you feel at home. It's a wonderful place for a romantic retreat, for both locals and out-of-towners alike.
