moldy cottages
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/19/07
This was our 3rd visit to the island and we stayed with friends the first week and then booked ourselves a room for the last week at Classic Vacation Cottages. However when we went to take a look at the room a few days before we were appalled. While visually it looked clean - the floor was mopped and the linens looked clean, but the smell was horrible - it smelled not only of body odor and as if a smoker had been in the room but the most prominent odor was of mold. Clearly there was a significant amount of mold growing somewhere in the room. When we looked outside as well I was not surprised to see mold growing all over the roof and very unkempt grounds including plants growing out of the gutters and a old sink laying in the lawn. Please note this is my 3rd visit to the island - i know it is rainy but this was over the top in terms of moisture! The owner was belligerent when we asked for a refund and ordered us off his property with little discussion.
Not only was it frustrating to loose our money and have to find a new place to stay because the room was not what we were promised (a clean room is one free of mold!) but it was a very unpleasant one due to the managements lack of 'spirit of aloha' that is so evident elsewhere on the island.
