Bed bugs, bed bugs, bed bugs, and ants
Bed bugs, bed bugs, bed bugs, and ants. Never had I seen bed bugs in my life until my first night at Backpackers. But the second I saw them crawling around on my sheets all my hairs stood up and I just knew what they were. I killed over a dozen and some of them had blood in them. As I type right now I have about two dozen bites clustered on my legs, itchy bumps reminding me to send out this fair warning to all those travelers.
Yes it's a hostel but it shouldn't have to be filthy. I did not sleep in my bed that night and moved out the next morning. There are plenty of places to stay on North Shore and it doesn't have to break the wallet.
Just 5 minutes walk away is a great place called "Shark's Cove Rentals". It's like a huge well-maintained house with nice kitchen and bathrooms, vinyl windows, air conditioning, tile floor, etch. It's like a bed 'n breakfast place minus the breakfast. It costs a little more but is totally worth it.
It should be illegal to have such pests at Backpackers, it's really gross. Apparently they know about the bed bugs problem, and have tried everything to get rid of it, unsuccessfully. They were going to fumigate the whole building after I left. But would you want to stay in a place that's saturated in poison?
