Tutu's House, Hana

When we arrived the house/duplex was very dissapointing. Milaneta greeted us and when we entered our side of the duplex there was an enormous spider on the porch with a web spread over the furniture. Once inside there were little ants on the counters, the backsplash in the kitchen, and even on all of the furniture in the back yard. The worst were the roaches! My wife woke up screaming there was a huge roach on the counter that ran under the sink. Needless to say we couldn't sleep and later I went to get a drink and spotted another one that I killed one and left there for the owner to see. We left at 6am the next morning and paid to stay elsewhere even though we had pre-paid for two nights. The owner never returned numerous calls and emails requesting a refund for the second night we had pre-paid. After complaining to HomeAway they made no progress and I see the property is no longer listed on their site. Aside from the bugs, the unit is quite run down. The beach is not in a league with what you would expect in Maui. The beach is not clean and the water was cloudy. We would not stay here for free! By the way this is our third time to Maui, we don't have any desire to return to Hana, but if you do don't waste your time at this property!

Our son reserved an overnight stay for us during our vacation in Maui. It was the perfect respite during our journey on the Road to Hana. The house had such a homey feel to it. It was clean, comfortable, and we enjoyed leisurely conversations on the back porch overlooking the Bay. The house is nestled in a beautiful spot, surrounded by all the lush trees and plants that Maui has to offer. An additional pleasant surprise was the Hana Cultural Center right across the street. We enjoyed exploring the grounds and visiting the museum. It really put us in touch with the beautiful spirit of the Hawaiian culture. Mahalo Nui Loa, Tutu's House...for all the beauty we experienced there.

We booked this rental and were a little bit leary about what to expect. We were surprised when we arrived and everything was waiting for us. The house was clean and the hostess went out of her way to make sure everything was good. This rental ended up being one of many bright spots of our trip. The view was very pleasant and the location was desirable and close to everything.

Liked: location, location, location. Right on the water with a beautiful view, great sound of waves on the rocks. Easy walking distance to red sand beach, the stores in Hana, Hana pier & kayaks, etc. Right across from the community center. Has everything necessary to cook, etc. Huge added bonus: a washer! Clean, private, and just what we wanted. Dislikes: the bed wasn't the most comfortable I've ever slept in; it would help to rearrange the bedroom so that the bed is against the opposite wall if possible. But I'd stay there again in a heartbeat, and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a by-the-day rental in Hana.

Right on the ocean for a great price. We picked mangoes in the yard.
