We just recently came back from Mazatlan, Oceano Palace. The staff there are all amazing! We were very impressed with everyone. This hotel is in a terrific location. We found some nice little resteraunts around the area. Check out George's Taco Grill, amazing, it is a 3 minute walk from Oceano Palace! But yes, you will not regret this place, our room was amazing, terrific view of the ocean. The cleaning staff was amazing, our room looked perfect everytime they came! Front desk, baggage guys, janitors, bar tenders, food people, all amazing! The only thing I can say could use improvement was the dinner food, but like I said, we found some good quality food at the little restaurants! One word to sum up this vacation, AMAZING! Thank you to everyone!!
The Moon Palace was not amazing, but it was not nasty either. The staff were very friendly and eager to help the guests. The food was good, but I heard quite a few people complain about a certain taste in some of the dishes. They said it tasted like cleaner, so I would taste a little bit of everything before digging in. The beach was amazing, it made up for the pool being small and dirty. I dont think the hotel had enough beach chairs for the number of guests, but if you are there to relax and enjoy the hot weather, a towel on the sand is fine. The location was amazing, very close to downtown and walking distance from some cute shops. A major complaint I had was our room. The door to the bathroom didnt fit in the frame, so we couldnt close it. The beds were extremely hard, but if you drink enough, it was comfortable. Overall, I think if you are just going for a good time, and youre not some stuck up American looking for an English speaking, high class Mexican resort, then you will have a great time at Moon Palace.
I went the first week in February, 07. Ive been everywhere in Mexico except Mazatlan, So im not a newcomer. I went for a very inexpensive 4 dayer, All inclusive, and loved it. Oceano Palace was as good as anywhere Ive been. If you write a review, make sure you know Mexico good! I do, and let me tell you, I cant say enough about the staff there. They did everthing for me! Of course I tipped when I felt nesessary, but nothing more than normal. First, I never had to get out of my chair for a drink, awesome! The waiter even offered to get me some food. The food was ok hotel food, and I didnt get sick. The room was nice, the towels smelled great, and the ocean view room view is spectacular, although I will say, if you want to sleep good, the ocean is a bit noisy when the wind is up. But again, Its Mexico. I didnt go there to sleep much, and I would take that evening ocean view anytime. Honest folks, if it was bad, I would say so. Oh, did I mention, It was Super Bowl weekend, and they had it on Tv in the lobby. Lots of real fun people. I hated leaving! Golf course was great, a little pricey, but go! It was so nice. Decent shopping within walking distance or cheap taxi. Plenty of phones to call home cheap. You can get phone cards in the shops along with a nice cold beer. The vendors bug you on the beach but where in Mexico dont they? Oh yeah, the pool was a little cold, but the ocean was warm. I was only there 4 days, But im going back to Oceano Palace next month with my family. Cheap all inclusive through Worry Free Vacations and worth more. (No im not afiliated in any way with anyone) Theres my honest opinion! Hola! Bob!
After reading some derogatory reviews just prior to our Christmas vist, we arrived expecting the worst. The hotel, food, facilities and staff were good to say the least. This is not a 5 star hotel, but then we didn't pay 5 star prices. We have travelled Europe, the States and Caribbean and this hotel holds it's own against the lot. Book with confidence if 3 stars meets your needs. The place is overrun with Canadians, but who can blame them for flying 4 hours south from minus 30 to plus 30
There was very low to no service in the hotel room. There was no light in the bathroom the Air conditioner was not working properly and the pool was not very clean. The bath towels were the worst that I have ever seen in a Hotel. The towels used in the pool area were better than in the Hotel rooms. Thel location was convenient.
The food was good along with good service.
In a word, our stay at the Oceano from a service standpoint was a nightmare.
It was obvious from the first minute we arrived that the reception desk was not interested in responding to the needs of the guests.
I called three times from our room and had to go down to the lobby three times to get basics such as blankets, repair a broken curtain, etc ....
There was NO SECURITY at this hotel. When wild Spring Break students descended upon us yelling, screaming and drunk, we and others experienced no security and even had the reception people hang up on us when we finally did get a hold of someone.
When we requested a room change, we got nothing.
For three days in a row the hotel had no beach towels for us.
Our nine year old daughter on one cool day was freezing in the pool (which is not heated) and NOBODY CARED. Not one person from the official hotel staff helped us.
The night before we left, three drunk tourists destroyed furniture in front of our hotel room door, tearning a chair and cushions to pieces in a drunken rampage.
No security so we huddled in our room and waited for them to finish.
The physical location of this property is lovely, but I cannot warn you enough to stay away from this hotel because of security concerns.
I even had guests come to me and complain that the maids had stolen their money and their personal belongings.
My opinion is that any hotel would be better than this.
