I like everything about this hotel, not far from the hotel zone less than 10 minutes walking and had some good restuarants around the corner from the hotel. The rooms were clean and the beer was only 10 peso or 1 dollar we had breakfast included with our room and the food was great. The pool is not to big and the hotel was very quiet and had only 36 rooms so in my opinion THe Grand Royal is something a private hotel very relaxing at night. Don't worry about getting around Cancun from this hotel the bus runs all day and your less than 3 minutes walking from the bus stop. The hotel is right on the lagoon and has a beautiful view at night. The only down side is that you have to catch the bus to get to the beach or walk across the golf course and go to the beach about a 15 minute.
My family was booked here for the arrival of 31 dec 2006....this was the only hotel we could booked because of New years eve...
When we made our booking with a valid credit card and recieved a confirmation number from a man named Francisco at the hotel,we found it strange that he has asked us to phone him from the airport when we arrived.
We did phone from the taxi to the hotel upon arrival to find out from another man they had canceled our reservation and were completely sold out....
We arrived at the hotel and they were extremely rude and told us he didnt care if we had to sleep on there grungy sofa in there lobby if we has to.....
We did find a room due to a cancelation down the road for double the price but it was worth it after seeing how run down and dingy this place was.....
The Grand Royal Lagoon is a very nice little hotel with only 36 rooms. It is located right on the top of the "7" on the hotel strip. The front of the hotel faces a small street that goes right to the main hotel street, and the bus stop is only half a block away. The back of the hotel is on the Lagoon. There's a nice place to relax and watch the water. Just up the street is a small strip with a couple of little sidewalk restauraunts, a laundrymat, a small grocery store that has an ATM. I found the best place to get the more Peso for your dollar was at that ATM machine. The ratio of Peso-to-dollar is better there than at any of the Currency exchange booths. And the worst exchange rate I found was at the Airport.
The hotel room was very clean. The only problems we had was that the beds were very hard. We bought some pool rafts at Walmart for $1.27 each and put them on the bed. Don't buy these at the beach, they want $10 for the same thing. Also, the Air Conditioner for the room above ours was leaking on ours causing a very annoying dripping sound all night long. We asked them to fix it, but they didn't. Don't stay in room 422. That's the room with the leak.
Other than that, everything was great. There's a safe in the room and a small refridgerator.
While this isn't RIU, it is pretty nice for the price. The people are great! They would literally do anything they could to help you. I went to every bar in the Hotel Zone the first few nigts but ended up meeting the coolest people right at the hotel and hanging out there the last few nights--the hotel has a little tiki-hut type bar that is the greatest!!! You are well within walking range of everything...we walked to the "strip" everyday. There are a couple of really good/cheap restaurants on the corner and a small supermarket beside them. Take the bus everywhere--6.5 pesos (65 cents) will get you anywhere.
The Royal Sunset Cancun offers moderately priced beachfront accommodations and all inclusive rates for visitors to Cancun's lively Hotel Zone.
The hotel's location puts guests in easy reach of the beach, popular shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. For onsite recreation, ...
