Wonderful Experience

This hotel is absolutely amazing. My girlfriend and I wanted to travel somewhere nice and warm to get away from upstate New York for our spring break, and the trip was exactly what we hoped for.
The hotel recently re-opened after renovations, so everything is new, clean, and beautiful. Also, their room rates are currently lower for their re-opening period, so right now you can get a great bang for your buck.
The rooms were spectacular. They were plenty big with an interesting polygonal shape. Simple without being boring, and with a unique style. My only complaint is the bathrooms were a tad small.
The beach and pool were heavenly. In addition to plenty of lounge chairs, the hotel also features mattresses on which you can lie flat very comfortably. I probably took a catnap at the beach or pool everyday, and Im not usually one to do that. There is wonderful poolside/beachside service. The servers are available without being intrusive, and they are extremely polite. They had a great bar, and a food menu as well. I would recommend the Shrimp Dos Salsas and a blended margarita. The drinks were quite pricey (100 pesos or about 10 dollars for a margarita), but they were amazing. We were looking for a nice beachside hotel for a relaxing time, and thats what we found. For the more active types, they offer things like snorkeling, scuba diving, or parasailing. We didnt partake in any, so Im no help in that regard.
Words to describe the hotel itself would be chic, trendy, and stylish. The lobby and lounges have modern-style furniture and artwork. Theres a lounge with computers that you can use for free. They continuously play electronic/dance music in the common areas, elevators, and pool area. I wasnt a big fan of that, but it wasnt too irritating. If youre looking for a tropical or Mexican themed hotel to complement your stay in Cancun, this isnt the place for you. The lobby bar is a Rande Gerber bar, and its very stylish. My girlfriend and I enjoyed sitting there for drinks before dinner.
The location of the hotel is great. La Isla Shopping Village, which has all kinds of shops and restaurants, is only a few minutes walk. Theres also a mall about a half-mile south as well. Plenty of locally owned as well as American-chain restaurants are nearby, and the most popular clubs are within a couple miles as well. The only time I needed a taxi was to and from the airport. There are hotels being built on either of this one, but the construction wasnt loud or even really noticeable.
As my one aspect for improvement, the hotel had some difficulty with the little things, which might be expected out of a newly opened place. For example, most hotels have a booklet in the rooms with information about food, activities, and the hotel in general. This was nowhere to be found in our room. We werent even sure if they offered room service, and when we asked the concierge, they sent us up a room service menu on printer paper stapled together. Also, there are a couple of restaurants in the hotel, but theyre not very well advertised, and we never ended up going to them. The room service food was good though. The staff was accommodating if I did have questions or issues. On our bill there was an additional charge that wasnt ours, and they removed it without us having to put up a fuss.
All in all, this is a great place to stay. I strongly recommend Cancun. My favorite place to travel is Hawaii (having grown up a west-coaster), but Cancun is a wonderful alternative for east-coasters or those looking for a less expensive vacation. If you decide to travel to Cancun, ME Cancun is a wonderful place to stay.
