Hotel El Carmen, Magdalena Milpas Altas

I love going to Hotel El Carmen everytime I can. Me and my family always enjoy our stayings there. It is at a perfect location just 1 block from the Central Plaza, the staff is always so nice to us, the last time I went I just enjoyed so much the terrance they made some great modifications and it has an AMAZING view!! I don't understand those bad reviews I just know what I've experienced and it has been GREAT.

Clean, rooms, lots of space, hot showers, yummy breakfast! noise travels easily in all of Antigua, so that will be an issue anywhere! Located close to town square, easy to wlk anywhere! i would love to stay there every time I go to Antigua!

The location is great access to the local Restaurants and to the Main Plaza. In 2007 it was the first time I stayed at this hotel. Based on that experiance I made reservations again, at our arrival we find out that we only had reservations for one night, rather than two. They offered to give another room at Hotel Don Pedro for the same price. The rooms feel cold and some light odor of water. No hot water even after letting water run for 15 minutes, very little hot water. For our troubles they offer waive the tax fee for the two days and an apology. Customer service Satisfactory. Call ahead and confirm the days of your stay.

Booked 5 double rooms for group traveling to Antigua. When we arrived the night manager acted like we hadn't booked anything in the reservation book. I got a look at the book and our reservation was clearly written in. We got our room keys and he asked us to pay. When we went to pay he attempeted to charge us 2.5 times the rate we had booked at. After some arguing, threatening to go to another hotel, and a phone call to our volunteer project director we arrived at the price we had booked. Not only was he an outright crook, but he was clearly taking person pleasure in trying to rip us off (If you can imagine a slimy mechanic trying to charge you $500 for an oil change...with a smile on his face, then you are getting the idea). This really started the stay in Antigua on a bad foot. In contrast the day manager was honest and quite friendly. As for the rooms, they were a little on the warm side (no AC or fans), but not unbearable. 2 of 5 double rooms we booked were actually single rooms with an extra bed crammed in....10 x 10 room with a double and a single bed. In all it was an ok value for the price we booked at. It is just the hotel manager's attempt to rip us off that ruined the experience.

I love this hotel! The rooms are small, yes, but the service was fantastic. Beautiful rooftop terrace, free purified water in the lobby, free breakfast. Great location. And the tour operator in the lobby, Mayra, is the best in town! Sometimes the hot water comes and goes, but totally it!
