Historic B&B -- Perfect Location!
By ,
We stayed at the charming 1720 House bed-and-breakfast in the winter, a few days before Christmas. The island was decked out with beautiful holiday lights and was delightfully quiet – none of the traffic or crowded restaurants and beaches of the high season. Our room was warm and cozy, spotlessly clean, and it had a view with a glimpse of the harbor. The hosts were friendly, attentive and helpful with suggestions for touring and nearby restaurants. The location of the 1720 House is perfect – an easy stroll from the ferry landing, the charming boutiques and restaurants of Main Street, the Stop and Shop, the library, car rentals and just about anything else a visitor would need. The 1720 House is pure Americana – not some sterile chain hotel or modern bungalow. The original wooden plank floors slope a bit here and there, doorways angle oddly, and the low beams in the living room continue to boldly brace the structure just as they have for the past three centuries. Antique furnishings tastefully decorate the cozy, freshly painted rooms, including six guest suites (three with ensuite bathrooms). Modern amenities include wireless internet, air-conditioning and television (in the living room). History buffs – or anyone who appreciates nostalgia -- will love the experience of staying in such a delightfully preserved home. We thoroughly enjoyed long walks on the empty beaches in the morning mist, dining on lobster at a nearly-empty restaurant and touring the island to marvel at various examples of Cape Code architecture and occasional grand waterfront estates. The 1720 House was perfect for our stay – excellent location, reasonable price, comfortable, historically interesting, thoroughly accommodating. We recommend it highly.

Avoid at all costs
By ,
It might be cheaper but you know the saying you get what you pay for. If it was more welcoming I might have recommended it . I felt like the owner just wanted us to leave. I woundn't stay again if it were free.

terrible... everyone on here is correct!
By ,
I should have read these reviews before getting sucked in to the quoted price online, which was then switched on me. The owner is the worst of New York City greed. Everyone elses's comments are spot on, I have nothing else to add. AVOID.

stay somewherre else
By ,
Abby, the owner of the B&B talked me into staying at her inn because she said that not many other places would be open during early April (which we found to be false). We had agreed upon a king sized bed room and when we arrived she switched us into a double bed- without asking us or anything! she said that another couple had asked and were willing to pay more.. i felt lied to and cheated. She did not have bikes available for our use which was advertised on the website, and when we asked if we could check them out she told us that if we used them they were "only for peddling round town". The morning we left we asked to leave our bags at the house while we went into town for some breakfast (because hers was so minimal) and she told us that we should probably just leave since the weather was not very nice! The only saving grace was her manager, Paul. But overall we were shocked at how rude someone in the hospitality buisness was to her guests! We do not reccomend this b&b to anyone!

Wonderful B & B
By ,
Owners were excellent, helpful, and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. Excellent food, rooms were clean, neatly decorated. Setting is a perfect Martha's Vineyard setting. Thanks for everything!

One of my favorites...
By ,
This is definitely one of the better inns on Martha's Vineyard. The location is fabulous. The rooms comforatable and the rates very competative for the area. This is one I will be going back to.

No Compassion, Empathy or Sympathy
By ,
We were appalled by the owner's lack of compassion regarding the organization's refund policy and how it relates to a Sudden Family Members Death. Avoid 1720 House if anyone in your entire family is over the age of 40 for fear of 1720 House enforcing payment. If you have reservations and you pass away -- you will be billed and payment enforced. Expect no sympathy, compassion or empathy from 1720 House's owner. It is as if 1720 House is managed by robots. They'll never see any of my family, friends or colleagues business again. An admonition, Mark Renkert, Executive Search Advisor Burlington, VT - Hartford, CT, Duxbury, MA
