When my friend and I checked in, we were not notified about any construction work that was happening. We found out about it when we got to our room and saw all the trucks taking up the guest parking spaces. They were working on the roof but we figured they probably had adjusted working hours to cause minimal annoyance to their guests - we were wrong. At 8:00 in the morning we were awoken by roofing noises, worker voices, and machinery. We called the front desk who said they would notify the workers. The noise didn't stop and the work continued. We decided to start our day early since we had little choice. Upon checkout, we were given a phone number to contact the manager - we had to call to request money off our bill. Before we left the manager did arrive, but did not come out to speak to us personally but rather "hushed" us away with a quick $20 off our nights stay.
My friend and I stayed here while on a trip to Santa Barbara. We checked in around 5 pm and noticed that there was a crew that appeared to be putting a new roof on the hotel. Their vehicles were taking up many spaces, and there was the typical working noise. We didn't think much of it then--and when they were still working at 6 pm (when we left to go get dinner) we figured they probably started later in the day and ended later in the day. We were wrong! We were woken up at 8:00 am by the noise of them working. The people working in the office seemed sympathetic, but they didn't have much control over the situation.
We understand that hotels have to make repairs, but we did not appreciate that we were not given a warning at the time of our reservation and that we were not told the times construction would be taking place. I am also not impressed with the manager, because he never came out when we were making our complaints and just told the people at the front desk to take off $20.
If it hadn't been for that, we would not have had anything negative to say about our stay.
