Burnt to a crisp !

Compared to most other "international" beachside hotels i've been to in the Dominican Republic, this hotel rates extremely poorly !
We went there over the New Year's holidays, and were extremely dissapointed.
We had rented two suites (one for the kids), and the rooms were dirty (you could not walk on the floor on your bare feet without having them come out black!); the airconditionning did not work (thankfully at this time of year the nights are cool, but I would hate to be there in spring or summer); a pipe leaked in the ceiling in the bathroom, so you could in fact take a shower and a leak at the same time !; finally, the room is supposed to be provided with 2 free beers daily, but wasn't.
Outside wasn't much better: huge steel pipes about 4 feet in diameter lined the beach, as they were in the process of dredging and pumping sea sand on to the beach: so you had to do some mountain climbing over these pipes to access the sea, only to discover troubled waters !
Because of the New Year celebrations, the hotel installed tables and chairs on the beach, and therefore all the beach chairs had been bunched up together (both by the two small swimming pools and on one side of the beach), thereby eliminating ALL pretense of privacy ! To make matters worse, the hotel provides absolutely NO beach umbrellas ANYWHERE, so essentially you were left to burn to a crisp under the caribbean sun !
Mercifully for all the european, canadian and american tourists there, winter rainshowers kept pouring about 3-4 times during the day, thereby providing SOME degree of relief from the sun and heat.... of course, most people preferred to run for shelther into the dining room area, only to have to hunt all over again for somewhere to lie down once the rainshowers were over !
The New Year eve buffet on the beach "looked" good, but tasted mediocre at best (everything was cold !), much like the regular meals in the open buffet and other small restaurants available....
I pitied the busload of canadian tourists arriving to the hotle as we were escaping !...
All in all, an experience I will not soon forget. You won;t see ME back there anytime soon... Buyer beware !
