WORST EVER VACATION
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/8/07
90% OF THE PEOPLE SPOKE SPANISH AND THE STAFF VERY BROKEN ENGLISH. WE AND OTHER PEOPLE WE SPOKE TO GOT SICK AND EVEN NEEDED IVS! CONSTRUCTION ABOVE US AND NEXT DOOR TO OUR ROOM AT 8am. THE BEACH IS VERY SMALL, BUT LIKED THE LARGER POOL AREA,PRETTY QUIET. THE HOTEL WAS FROM THE 1950'S AND NO NIGHT LIFE THERE, EXCEPT FOT NIGHTLY SHOWS WITH NO AC I THINK THIS IS THE WRONG AREA OF DR TO GO TO--PUNTA CANA IS MORE AMERICANIZED. NO DESIRE TO EVER GO BACK- GLAD TO BE BACK IN THE USA!!!

Don't stay here unless you like rats
By LaLatina, 9/19/07
This place is AWFUL!!!! When we arrived to our room we quickly noticed that there was a nasty moldy smell. Upon further examination we realized that our comforters were damp and thus moldy. Then we realized that the window in the bathroom was broken and wouldn't close all the way. Aside from the obvious safety implications of having a room on the bottom floor with a window that doesn't close, the open window was a welcome mat to all the mosquitoes of the DR far and wide. We spent our evenings before we could go to sleep as mosquito fighters. And though those things were unpleasant, it paled in comparison to the rat roommate we found hiding out under the minibar. I am not kidding, we had a rat in the room. (I have pictures of the rat!!!) When we called the front desk they were slow to act. Finally after multiple calls they came and moved us. To add insult to injury they did not give us a discount on our stay even though we shared a room with a rat. Instead they told me that it was a tropical place and rats are bound to be around. While affordable, the low prices definitely come at a price. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

wow ..no change in 12 years then
By kevin, 7/16/10
i got married in the hotel in 1998, and i have never been so ill as i was that holiday, the doctor on site told us to eat the rice and it was the rice that was infected with bacteria, the whole complex was acceptable but im not surprised by the comments, it is in the middle of the most disgusting place i have ever seen in my life, and to be fair if i was to advise anybody to go there i would say eat only the hot dogs and pizza, in which case you may as well stay and home and fight over who is going to lay under the sunbed..so sad to hear they are still ripping people off all these years later..what a joke !!

Loved it! Exceeded my expectations.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/25/11
After reading the horrible reviews on this hotel I was scared to go. I am so glad I went. My husband & I had a blast. The people are friendly, the place looks luxurious. It seems to have recently been renovated. Other than a bit of a wait at check in we had a great time. I guess depending on the time of day you get there your wait can be long or short. Either way, just have a seat & grab some free drinks at the bar. You will get your room & it’s worth the wait. We had the ocean view room. I do recommend the upgrade there is nothing like it. The hotel itself is endless; there is so much to see. The pictures on line don’t do it justice. There is an abundance of food & drinks. I wouldn’t go too crazy though, like in any foreign country, you should watch what you eat. I would defiantly go there again. We loved everything about it.

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/22/06
My husband and I went to this hotel for our anniversary because everyone was always saying such great things about it. But I have to say that I was highly disappointed. The worst thing about it I'd have to say was the food, there was no variety and at times you could tell that the food had been leftovers from the day before. Everything else was ok but not anything out of this world. I've stayed at cheaper hotels and I've have a greater time. Some I recommend in Santo Domingo: Don Juan Beach Resort, Hotetur Dominican Bay, and the Sol Melia in Juan Dolio. And for those planning to go beyond the city, I stayed in Puerto Plata at the Hotel Naco and it was fabulous. All of the above had great beach areas, rooms and fabulous cuisine.

Wasted vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/26/08
Based on the previous trips to that resort the only thing still acceptable is the beach. Despite late arrival the room was not ready. After a long wait we were given a room with the bathroom ceiling leaking waste water. Next day moved to a different room with the same problem. So the first two days of our vacation was spent making trips to the front desk where nobody seems to be concerned or capable of fixing the situation. Let alone the health hazard we were exposed to. This hotel obviously doesn't follow its own reservation system and is constantly overbooking the place. Rooms are given out on the first come basis. At the moment you show up at the front desk, they start scrambling to see what they have available. If there's none, then they will send you to a non-existent or non-habitable room hoping that in the back and forth a real room will become available. That's exactly what happened with us as it wasn't until late Monday morning when we finally settled in a habitable room. But even that room, one of their vacation club rooms, was outdated. The A/C would cool only half of the space in the tropical heat and humidity. Peeling paint on door and vanities. Toilet constantly running water. By the comments gathered from other guests, our experience was not an isolated incident. I guess the Oasis organization is betting on the vacation club crowd to keep the place going. In conclusion, one goes on vacation to relax and have a good time not to. Neither of those can be marginally guaranteed on that resort. We are a very well-traveled family and never the end of a vacation and the allure of home looks so enticing. At the end, we were more than happy of leaving that place without any intention of ever looking back.

Oasis Hamaca??????
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/14/09
Horrible! Paid for an updated beach front..... 1. Bugs in room (including the bed)(lay down a blouse and they covered it) 2. Ceiling leaked 3. Luggage rumbled through and items stolen (medicine & camcorder) 4. Room smelled bad 5. Roof leaked and was partially caved in 6. Construction noise began at 7:30 am 7. No one to complain to 8. My door to adjoining room was opened repeatedly 9. Trip to mall $70 a person 10. Prostitutes everywhere 11. Drinks with no alcohol in them 12. Activities moved without notice 13. Discouraged from going out alone 14. Security walking with shotguns 15. T-shirts $6-21 and dirty etc.
