never spend your money at this dump
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/18/12
I am a frequent traveler and this was the worse stay I have ever had. Where do I begin? I brought my husband here for his birthday and I was so embarrassed. First of all the room was extremely small...of course not the size of the picture online. The 2 person Jacuzzi was a joke it only fits 1 person and I refused to get in it because it was so dirty. But the best part about it is that we had the water running for 30 minutes and it still never got hot so I had to wait to come home to take a shower. BTW we stayed in the Colorado frontier. This room is so outdated the t.v. is from the 1970s and it has an outdated dvd player. The room is dusty. The fire detector was just hanging out with wires the tv wires were just hanging out everywhere. Whoever owns this business please understand that in a stay all of the small details matter cleanliness....upgrade your rooms. The whole place smells like a nursing home. And of course to top it all off the reason why you are there for the breakfast. We asked if they could bring breakfast first thing in the morning they arrived 2 hours later with the wrong breakfast. I was so frustrated I just wanted to eat and get out of there. But of course I could not do that because the food taste like rubber was cold and had no smell. There were like 3 cars in the parking lot the whole time we were there. I am not surprised if this place is going out of business it is a joke. I would not recommend any one in the world to spend a dime at this place . I have never in my life have wanted to just get home and was so excited to be in a clean environment with running hot water and good food when I got home. This place is so overpriced it is an injustice that they think these rooms are worth that price.....

Overpriced
By wymrlover, 10/19/10
I took my husband here for his birthday and 2 days before being deployed to Kuwait. This was his first B&B, i have been to several. We stayed in the Presidential Suite. Really cool when you walk in and you have to go behind a "library door" to get to the bedroom. The library area was much more roomy then the actaul "bedroom". Loved the large tv and tub with lights but there was about a shoulder's width of room to get past the bed to the library area where the bathroom is. This is more like a hotel... a "real" b&b you get a fabulous breakfast. this was a rubbery omlette with "sad fresh fruit". Toast, bagels, muffins... would have been nice with breakfast. The unique room was nice and bed comfortable but next time I will spend my money at a B&B where it is more personal and a unique, fresh breakfast.

We love this hotel
By Jesse, 5/23/10
I see alot of bad reviews on here and don't quite understand why. The hotel gives tours of all the rooms every day and also has a bunch of pictures and videos online. Also you can call and get room sizes. The hotel is a little pricier than an average hotel but come on where else can you get such an original room? I will agree with customer service issues any time we have had problems they aren't very apt to help out, and we have stayed here more than a few times. The stays are always very romantic for us and alot of fun, we have stayed in a couple small rooms before, but I don't book here for room size. The point of going here is to be close to your significant other. If you are slipping or tripping on steps that is more your own fault for poor coordination, I have never had a problem with the tub before. I love the color changing lights along with the jets and rain shower heads. We love to get a dvd from their library and get close and watch a movie together and relax. This place is perfect to get away from everything and help you forget about everything outside of the rooms walls. Its always fun staying in a different room because you get to have a whole new adventure. We love going to dinner over at the legends because they have so many different choices, and also going to see a show at Stanford and Sons which I highly recommend. The romantic upgrades really set the mood. My gf is always excited to walk in and have rose petals leading to the bed and a bottle of champagne on ice by the tub. And the breakfast is amazing. I also suggest getting one of their desserts they are all delicious, oh and the hot chocolate is really good too. The journal that is in every room always gives you something to smile about seeing what other people experienced. All in all this is one of my favorite places to go with my girlfriend we have never had a bad experience here. Everyone here who is complaining about these little things obviously missed the whole concept of going to the hotel in the first place. Like the woman who was so upset they wouldn't let her in the room until 4, come on now really? You couldn't go eat or something? The site specifically says check in is at 4pm its common sense, chill out you'll live you're not staying at motel 6. And the bath tub thing that really is you're problem. The only complaint I saw on the first page that is a reasonable grudge is the credit card guy, that is something to truly be upset about. Other than that I read nothing but a bunch of cry babies who need to put a little more focus on the person they are there with and a little less time criticizing the hotel. I know I wouldn't want to stay the night with any of you.

To much money for a cheap room !!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/19/09
First impression walking into the room, was disapointment, the room was tiny, dark, spider webs on the posts of the bed, a white grayish layer of dust around the edges of the room scuff marks on the walls. The bathroom, was the size of a closet maybe a foot on each site of the toilet to the wall, splash marks on the wall. The hot tup had welded together copper pipes hold the plain white shower curtain. A Palm tree that was cemented in a small metal paint bucket decorated the room.

Poor Customer Service
By Michael, 2/19/09
This post is not meant to be an attack. It is simply stating my experience with Chateau Avalon. The hotel itself looks very nice, and I'm sure that several guests have not experienced issues such as this. This is, however, indicative of a larger problem with overall customer service. I had made an online reservation for the night of February 13th. I made the reservation on February 1st. I had placed the reservation on a credit card that has a limit on how much you can spend in one transaction. Per their website, the cost at time of reservation would be 50% of the total cost of the room. Unbeknownst to me, the rate I had been offered was a special 72-hour sale, and the cost at time of reservation was 100% of the total cost of the room. This amount was over the transaction limit set by my credit card company, and thus, the transaction was not accepted. This would have been fine, as I would have placed the reservation on another card. However, no attempt was made to contact me! I found out about the problem when I contacted Chateau Avalon to confirm the reservation three days later. I was then informed that my credit card was declined. I asked if I could put the reservation on another card, but the woman (who was actually very cordial) said that the room had already been booked. I asked if there was another room, but she said that there were no more rooms available. Needless to say, I was quite upset by this, as this was supposed to be a Valentine's Day surprise for my girlfriend, who absolutely loves this hotel. The woman I spoke said that I might be able to contact the manager to get a free room on another date. I left a message for the manager, promptly made a reservation at another hotel, and the next morning, a representative (not the manager) contacted me. She said that I had indeed been contacted by phone and by email. This came as a shock to me, as I never received any email, and I was never contacted by phone, and never had a voicemail message. She said that the person who put the notes on my account was very diligent about this, and definitely made the attempt to contact me. She believed her staff over the customer over a very simple matter, and that is definitely a mistake. I was dumbfounded that she even suggested that I was wrong. She offered to give me a similar room on a different date at the same price, which was less than adequate, due to the circumstances. Nonetheless, I accepted. She assured me that I would be able to take advantage of the offer within a certain amount of time. I requested that she email me this information. However, to this day I have not received any emails from Chateau Avalon, except for the original reservation confirmation. If I had not bothered to verify the reservation, I may have come to Chateau Avalon that night, only to find out that I wouldn't be staying there. That would have been utterly unacceptable.

What a great place for a weekend get-a-way!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/08
My wife and I stayed here on our way to Branson last May. We were up for a little African Ambiance, so we chose the Serengeti Room. Upon arrival, we were greeted by helpful staff that showed up where our room was. The room was fabulous. My wife had Jungle Fever the minute we got into the room. We turned the heat way up in the room to get that real African Safari feel. After a quick soak in the tub, we made our way over to the Rhino and the Crocodile for a few pictures of me with the animals I pretended to shoot on my Safari. (I hope they cleaned the Crocodile after we left!). It must have been over 90 degrees upstairs in the tent, because we were sweating like Desert Hogs up in the bed. Anyway, you can imagine where the night went from here! This room was a great stage for our African Safari!!!

Great Hotel
My wife and I had a great stay here for our one year anniversary. We stayed in the Venetian room and it was very nice. The staff was very friendly and even let us tour a few other rooms. The chocolate desert was great and the breakfast was nice too. I would recommend to anyone looking for a romantic evening with the one they love!

Never again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/3/08
My husband and I booked a room (Egyptian theme) for our wedding anniversary. We drove from Lawrence to the hotel, and arrived 15 minutes before our check-in time. Two other couples were waiting for their rooms, also, and we were all told our rooms were "not quite ready yet." I waited ten minutes and asked the person at the desk if we could go up to our rooms and was told in a very curt manner that my check-in time was not until 4 p.m. It was five minutes to 4 o'clock. I told her I needed to use the rest room, and she pointed me to one down the hall. At 4 p.m. on the dot we were all told our rooms were ready and we carried our own bags to our rooms. It was obvious none of the guests would be allowed into their rooms before official check-in time. The attitude was very unhospitable. The room was very small. There was not much space to walk from the bed to the rest room, and the tub took up most of the area in between. The tub had a step around it, which I tripped over when I tried to walk from the bed to the rest room. For the price we paid for the room, we were sorely disappointed. But the greatest disappointment was the total lack of hospitatlity. We won't be going back.

We were in Kansas City?
By KarahM, 1/28/08
My boyfriend and I share this tradition where we celebrate every month we've been together. We figure every month is something to be thankful for! This time, he blew me away by making reservations to stay at the Chateau Avalon. It was amazing. We stayed in the Serengetti and we could not have felt more distant from reality. It's as if we were in the middle of the jungle taking rain showers under the trees. The bed was insanely comfortable as well. We upgraded and got chocolate covered strawberries, wine, candles, rose petals... the works. While the upgrade was a bit expensive (and we probably could have done it ourselves for cheaper), it was wonderful. I figure we were paying for not only the items, but also the convenience of not having to run around to stores to buy them and then set them up. All in all, it was a great experience and I believe a weekend away from the hustle of everything is worth the price that was paid. Not only that, but it gave us a chance to reconnect and center ourselves in our relationship which was priceless. Thanks for making our 4 years and 10 months memorable! P.S. Breakfast is delicioso!!! P.S.S. Make sure to visit Legends! It's like a community in itself!
