San Juan Motel, Oct. 2007
While the room we stayed in (#30, 3rd flr.) had been recently remodeled, it was an amateurish job and detracted considerably from the overall experience.
The lady at the desk was helpful and accomodating when we checked in, willing to move us to a different type room (we didn't know what type of room we had booked). We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom models, without a kitchenette. The bedrooms were arranged in a linear fashion, one behind the other, with the bathroom in between off of a hallway. The room appeared clean, but there was hair on the tub and sink in the bathroom. There also appeared to be mold on the edges of the window frames. The room had a small fridge, a microwave, and a color tv, and there was Wi-Fi, although we didn't use it.
All in all, if I were going on a big fishing trip with my buddies and we were looking for a cheap room to stay in, this would be the ticket. Taking the family on a vacation... not so much. This is mainly due to the condition of the remodel work in the room. I was brushing my teeth, and leaned on the bathroom sink, and it nearly fell off the pedestal.
The neighborhood around the motel looks clean and safe though.
The ratings on this one are a tough call. The management has obviously tried pretty hard to fix the place up and give it all the features that are going to attract visitors. Unfortunately, they got off the track somehow.
