Pensione Nichols, Seattle

We spent our honeymoon night there after a long, wedding day. It was a bit of quirky, Old Seattle still recovering from the earthquake. Our room was quaint and comfortable with a common bathroom which was fine. The hotel did not have air conditioning so on this Labor Day weekend night the windows were open. I awoke in the middle of the night largely due to some party goers laughing and talking. Not wanting to wake the new Mrs. I found a comfortable sofa in the hall to curl up and read. The breakfast was good and our table was close to the windows with a view over the bay. Pike Place Market was a stone's throw down the hill where we enjoyed strolling and shopping. It is a fond memory.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Pensione Nichols. It's not a place for everyone however! It's a small inn (maybe 6 rooms?) and run by a live-in manager (and her cat!). We stayed in room without a private bath (we used the common bathroom in the hallway). There was an interesting common room with a view of the Bay. It's in a great neighborhood and Pike's Market was just down the hill and we had dinner in a Tapas restaurant about a block away. I felt totally safe there. Overall, I thought we got great value from Pensione Nichols. If you're on a budget, aren't looking for luxury, and can tolerate some quirks, then this may be a great place for you!

This is not a good place. The favorable reviews are so far off the mark they may have been planted by the owner. The room we were given was not as described in advance, the room was not clean and we did not feel safe in that part of the city. We left, and would never consider staying in such a place.
