Location and parking could be problematic
The room and common areas were clean and the decor was pleasant. We were assigned one of the corporate king rooms located at the very end of the top floor. Our room was smaller than we expected possibly due to the fact that the building appeared to curve inward at our end.The reservation was for two persons but the room seemed to be configured for one (judging by the number of pillows, towels and the lack of a second bed stand)
This property is located very close to downtown Spokane in the middle of a hospital district. This area is at the base of Spokane's "South Hill" and is a complex of abbreviated and one-way streets that can make finding the Madison a challenge. Directions from their website...
"Take exit #281 staying in left lane; turn left at 2nd Avenue; go one block and turn left on Browne Street; go under interstate keeping right and continue up the hill, bending right, then left onto McClellan Street; go two blocks, through the light at 8th Ave. and turn left at 9th Avenue staying in left lane; proceed straight through intersection onto 9th Ave./Rockwood Blvd., go past Inn 100 feet and turn right into access drive."
So, if you're not a regular you may find coming and going to be a litlle tricky.
The parking lot at the Madison Inn is small (one slot for each room) and staff provides a permit for your car. Since guests may bring more than one car, or there may be visitors, you may be required to park along the access drive or even in metered parking along the street (not the best idea in this area). We were in early during our stay and didn't encounter a problem but if you're returning late, parking could be an issue.
Despite the steel and concrete construction we were bothered by street noise and the occasional medivac helicopter on approach to the hospital roof 1 block away.
Room cleanliness was good but when we returned from sightseeing at 4PM our room had not been made up. It was not a problem to find a member of the housekeeping staff and do a towel exchange but we expected the cleaning to be finished by that time of the afternoon.
A continental breakfast is available, coffee, juice, mufffins. Minimal.
If I had business at one of the nearby hospitals the Madison Inn would be very convenient. For the kind of visit we made, with frequent comings and goings via automobile, I'd consider another location.
