Description
High on a hilltop, Wonder View Inn and Suites is just a minute from downtown Bar Harbor, the ferry to Nova Scotia, and Acadia National Park. The inn is on the site of Farview, the estate of Mary Roberts Rinehart, famous writer of popular mystery stories. Most of the estate, along with hundreds of homes and summer cottages and thousands of acres of forest, was destroyed in the fire of October, 1947. The stone steps and walls on the grounds are remnants of the original Rinehart estate. Bangor is approximately 50 miles from this property.Enjoy the famous, eight-sided, glass-walled Rinehart Dining Pavilion for a taste of some of the finest in traditional Down East cooking, and enjoy the spectacular panorama that only the Wonder View's unique location can provide. Step out to the pool or stroll the beautifully manicured grounds. For your convenience, there are a guest laundry room and a computer in the lobby to check your e-mail. The lobby and some areas of the property also have free WiFi.Each clean, comfortable room has a direct-dial phone, color TV, air-conditioning, and a refrigerator. Large windows and roomy balconies provide you with gorgeous views of Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay.
My husband & I (and dog) have stayed @ Wonder View for the past 5 years and really enjoy the convenience of the hotel. The rooms definitely need to be updated though. A very dog friendly place to stay!
We stayed at the Wonder View Inn on our recent trip and it was wonderful. The view from the top is incredible it looks out over the ocean and the islands surrounding Bar Harbor.
The staff were all very friendly and more than accomadating. The room was clean and well kept and very spacious. The beds were comfortable. The pool was heated and warm (it was cool when we were there but the pool felt great) and large especially for a hotel. If you have kids or love to be a kid there is a grassy area with a tire swing that the kids loved. For those who like coffee there was always free coffee in the lobby as well as internet access.
There is also a free bus service that stops at this hotel that takes you to downtown (which you could walk if you like to walk but it is probably about a mile from downtown) and if you wish you can transfer to another free bus to take you to Acadia National Park.
The only downside is it is not on the beach. If you are staying at the bottom of the hill you will not have the beautiful view.
Well worth it to stay here.
