Our first B&B: exceeded expectations
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/29/06
We stayed at this inn to attend a niece's graduation from Middlebury College, which is nearby. While hesitant to stay at a B&B for the first time, the lodging opportunities in the area (tons of B&Bs, no national hotels) almost required that we try one. This was an excellent introduction to the B&B/inn concept for us. The service from the live-in innkeepers was exceptional, the rooms were comfortable and quiet, and the breakfasts were outstanding. My brother and sister-in-law, who were also staying at this inn, had arranged for a private dinner there one of the evenings. The 4-course meal was gourmet-restaurant-quality and it was so nice to be able to have some wine, linger over the homemade dessert and coffee and not think about driving anywhere ... just walking upstairs to bed. Above all, the atmosphere of a private celebration was what will make this memorable for our family. There are some things we had to get used to on our first B&B stay: the inn doesn't have any cell-phone reception, and the internet connection is dial-up. There is no wall-to-wall carpeting in any of the rooms, just area rugs. (Might be a nice option to have in at least one room.) We will feel more comfortable in trying other B&Bs after staying at the Churchill House. We even got a postcard from the innkeepers after we arrived home. That kind of service is unexpected and adds to the experience. We would recommend this inn to others without hesitation.

What a splendid experience
By Caroline, 06/28/06
We just spent a week in Vermont staying at a different place every night. Of all the places we stayed we have the fondest memories of this Inn. The hosts Seth and Olya were gracious and made the experience for us. They definitely went beyond. We decided to have dinner at the Inn. Let me just say...one of the most brilliant choices we made on our trip. They weren't written up in Gourmet magazine for nothing. Don't skip the maple syrup mousse. I don't even like maple syrup that much and I was in heaven from the second that dessert met my tongue. The hosts were even kind enough to serve it to me again at breakfast. But knowing that i wasn't too fond of maple syrup went to the trouble of preparing a delicious strawberry syrup (in addition to providing maple syrup) to go with their special pancakes. Yummy. The hosts made a concerted effort to not be intrusive, but were successful in being available when needed. We enjoyed the feel of the Inn and the music that accompanied our meals (it is the little touches that do make the difference). The Inn is centrally located to many sights/ activities. While there we hiked to Silver Lake and enjoyed a most picturesque and private setting. We would definitely recommend this Inn and we would return there given the opportunity.
