Misleading, Disappointing and Not Recommended
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/28/11
Not sure if a recent change of owners is the problem or what, but the Usonian website leads you to believe you'll be staying at a charming inn, but what you arrive at is a lack-of-quality-maintenance highway motel. The rooms are outdated and done cheaply as "FL Wright-inspired". When built, this place was probably very unique and a good stay, but "renos gone wrong" and a lack of quality maintenance has really destroyed this place. The walls seemed nicotine-stained, the doors were in poor condition, the radiators no longer work so there's a separate almost-space-heater (?) put in the wall, and the parking lot smelled of cat urine. This place has alot of potential given proper restoration, but right now - it's a SAD case and I would not recommend.

Nice for a Night; We'd Stay There Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/14/11
We very much enjoyed our stay at The Usonian Inn. After a day of learning about the architectural style of Frank Lloyd Wright and his apprentices, a stay at the Usonian was just the thing to further our experiential learning. It was close to Taliesin and easy to find. The online reservation process was simple and I appreciated the two confirmation emails (one immediately upon booking; one the day before our scheduled arrival). I also appreciated being able to pay online, so that my CC was already on file and I did not have to provide it again. We stayed in room #7, The Royal Room. Not sure why it was called that, but it was nice and the beds were especially comfortable! I thought the noise of the highway nearby would hinder our sleep, but traffic quieted down after 10 p.m. and even though we had the windows open it was hardly noticeable. My only criticism is that I wish I had known or been advised to bring my own bar soap and shampoo. While I appreciate a "green" experience, I also appreciate being made aware of what that entails. Additionally, upon taking a shower the next morning, our shower soap dispenser had about one full squirt of soap in it before it was empty. :-( I therefore had to step out of the shower to get soap from the sink dispenser! Our room was clean, it had a nice ambiance, we loved the upgrades and appreciated the room fridge and coffee maker. The fluffy soft towels were just like home. I would recommend The Usonian Inn for anyone visiting Spring Green who is on a budget, but interested in getting the most out of the Frank Lloyd Wright experience!

Night at the Usonian
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/20/11
Our garden room was well-named. It looked out on a small but cheerful flower garden. The bathroom had been nicely updated; the bedroom had clean lines. I liked the fact that the Usonian prided itself on being a green motel.

Would hesitate to return
By FLW fan, 10/8/10
We enjoyed the room, but not the booking process. After filling out the form for reservations where I indicated our arrival time, I received an e-mail back with incorrect arrival times. I didn't do anything with that then, but I kept it in my mind until our arrival date approached. I sent an e-mail confirming our arrival time several days before our arrival, and received an e-mail back saying there was no problem But the day before our arrival, I received an automated e-mail restating the wrong check-in time. I figured it was a mistake since I had the other confirmation that someone personally responded to. When we arrived we were told we were lucky to have shown up because we hadn't arrived by 6, which was not our stated arrival time. I should point out we had arrived within the stated office hours, yet she was about to close up. When we returned home, we had a message on our phone saying our room may not be available when we arrived. We were obviously not home to retrieve that message since we were enroute to the hotel. We were put off by this message and even though we enjoyed the room, we most likely will not return. Other info: The motel is close to the highway and we heard truck traffic through the door when we arrived, but by 10 the traffic was gone and it was quiet. I would suggest the owners light up the entrance to the hotel because it is difficult to see the driveway in the dark. Again, the hotel style is FLW, and it was fun to stay in a room with the indirect lighting and ambiance that felt like we were in the 1950s (in a good way), but the reservation process is clearly flawed.

wouldn't go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/10
We were not impressed. I'm not sure which hotel these other reviewers were praising. The motel is barebones, no frills. We never saw any espresso. We had a negative experience with the management who was not at all accommodating. The walls are so thin that we couldn't get to sleep until the neighbors stopped talking. It's in a pleasant location but on a busy road. The only reason to pick this motel is the price.

Sweet, quiet place with good wines
By PeterWN, 9/10/10
Can't really go through the long list of everything that is right with it! I know the list of what's not is very short. I enjoyed it, and i recomend it very highly.

The Usonian Inn is a Gem
By Ken, 10/9/09
My wife and I stayed here during our visit to Taliesin East and it is the perfect accommodations for a Frank Lloyd Wright pilgrimage. The room was clean and comfortable. The owner could not have been friendlier or more helpful. It was truly a joy to find this gem on our travels.

Loved it!!!!!!!!
By Crystal, 9/6/09
We stayed there over labor day weekend. Very clean and loved the styling of the room. This is a green hotel and was done very nicely. The location was perfect for Taliesan and House on the Rock. Owner was very nice and helpful in recommending places to eat and see. We will go back and are already planning our next stay. Great Romanian wine too in the lobby.

A refreshing unique change
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/09
This place is unique and if you're interested in Frank Lloyd Wright's style of architecture it is a must. Clean, unique, and a friendly proprietor. Absolutely great coffee. Will make it the only place whenever we're in Spring Green area. All this and the price is reasonable.

A very special place.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/28/08
There is not much at all for kids to do at the Usonian Inn. That is one of the reasons we love it! Tranquil and relaxing, outside each room you'll find a small round table with two chairs where visitors may sit in the morning to read, sip their favorite morning brew, talk quietly, enjoy their continental breakfast selections, plan activities for the day or simply doze. Although we miss the former owners, the new ones are charm-ing and attentive. I am glad they have decided to stay open in the winter! The only improvement I can think of would be somehow to allow access to ice after the office closes at 10. If you forget to fill your ice bucket before you leave for a late picnic and play, you will be out of luck. We always try the Usonian before we book anywhere else and we feel very lucky to get a room when we do. They have MANY repeat clients.
