Never Again
We were extremely dissatisfied with our stay at this B&B for the following reasons: 1) Upon stepping into the house, laden with our overnight bags, we were immediately (and inconveniently) instructed to remove our shoes due to their "no-shoe policy," even though our rooms were a mere 20 second walk up the nearby stairs and it was a mild, dry night. 2) During a quick tour & history of the premises, the owner noted that his furnace was “the original,” made in Germany, and then inexplicably added the detail that it still contained the original swastikas on the side—information both unnecessary and insensitive. 3) Upon arrival, we discovered that the B&B has a "no food in the [claustrophobically small] bedrooms" policy. So, having arrived hungry at 8 pm, we inquired whether we could eat our take-out dinner sandwiches at the dining room table, which was empty. NO, our (shockingly inhospitable) host replied. He said he would soon be setting the table for breakfast. One normally expects B&B hosts to be accommodating at least in some small way. But this man was utterly indifferent to our dilemma and offered no alternative solution. So that was that. Okay, so we can't eat in the bedrooms. And we can't take ten minutes to eat in the dining room. Where do we end up eating? Outside in our car! Are you getting the sense that perhaps this man is in the wrong business? In addition to all that, the bedrooms were cramped and noisy, with every squeak of the faucets and flush of the toilets amplified through the walls. The only positive aspect of this experience (aside from checking out) was the morning meal, which was ample and attractively presented. I would recommend this place only as an occasional alternative to self-flagellation.
