Nostalgic and simple, but colorful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/24/09
Mostly clean rooms, no frills, just a place to sleep...might i say for dirt cheap in Gloucester. Been going there for several years...they finally got rid of the shag carpet! Not exactly a place to bring kids, but i did bring mine and they could appreciate the differences. Those of you who come for the touristy part- you will get exactly the atmosphere you saw in the movie. Its a fishing community, folks, and like another poster stated, this is a hard-working man's place...there's no glitz and glamour for these folks...they live and work hard on fisherman's pay. Remember, people from all over the world don't live like the rest of us. Just the same, if you can be open minded and non-judgemental, you can meet some of the best characters around and they just might teach YOU a thing or two.

Always stop there for our 1st or last cocktails
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/2/08
We have been spending weekends at Gloucester for several years now. The Cro's Nest is a favorite of mine and my wife's each and every trip. We know no one inside and there seem to be different people everytime...but a good time is always had and everyone is pleasant and polite. Come on in have a seat, play the Mass lott, have a highball, play some pool, and peruse the Andrea Gail memorial wall. There are some real local color and characters.

Making friends at the Nest
By Busch Man, 2/8/08
I must start by telling you that I did not stay in a room. My only intent was to experience the people, and the atmosphere in the bar. As far as the people........the best you will find anywhere! The atmosphere was everything that I was hoping for in a fishing community. I was looking for a down-to-earth place where the people would be as down to earth as they come, and I found it! The evening started by me asking for a Busch Light beer (I am from Missouri), and the bar tender couldn't have laughed harder! I immediately felt like I was accepted. I settled on a Budweiser, and the evening began. My sister, and brother-in-law wanted some wine, and the bar tender seemed confused! Again, this is exactly what I expected. Not only was the wine issue confusing to the bar tender, but the wine was terrible! Again, exactly what I would expect, and what I hopped for. My wife, and I wanted to buy a t-shirt, and hat for a souvenier of our being there. The bar tender showed us different colors of hats, etc. My wife wanted a maroon t-shirt, and a gentleman sitting next to her suggested a blue one because he said that the maroons one fadded too bad. We accepted his advice and bought a blue t-shirt, and a tan hat. We are both very proud of our purchase. I had a very unique contact with a woman that has year's of experience with the bar. She said that she lived there on and off for a while, and had many stories to share. Although we didn't stay long enough to hear all of her stories....she did share one story with me that I will take to my grave. If you want to find out for yourself......my only advice for you is to go there for yourself, and see what you can find out. I can promise you this...my first stop the next time I am in the Boston area will be to the Crow's Nest. I plan on hearing more stories. Maybe they will have a Busch Light for me upon my return! Thinking of MA from MO.

working man's bar
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/2/08
We stopped in for lunch, which it turns out they haven't served in years. Joined some of the saltier patrons for a beer at 11:30 am. Everyone was more than pleasant, but this is not a tourist joint, it's a hard drinking bar for hard working (when they can get it) guys. Worth it for the story, if nothing else.

VERY RUDE PEOPLE, UNCLEAN, I HAVE NEVER FELT SO UNWELCOMED IN A PLACE EVER. THE EMPLOYEES WERE JUST AWFUL, WILL NOT RECOMMENED TO ANYONE, AND I WAS SO EXCITED TO FINALLY GET TO VISIT, VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING.

NICE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/07
Instead of being trapped in Boston for the weekend because of work....I took the time to spend 2 nights at the Crow's Nest....$55 dollars a night for all the things you need in a room. People were very friendly and kind, and did not treat you as a tourist.....Delaneys Pizza was awesome.....the beer was cold nd the service was great.....to bad they did not have at least a small seafood menu on the weekends to top it off

Loved the place!!!!!!!
By karen, 7/6/07
Went to the Crow's Nest today with family from out of state. 2 from California and 1 from Texas and us 2 from Wilmington, MA. It didn't look like it did in the movie but it did look exactly like I pictured it while reading the book before the movie came out. All of us had an awesome time. The regulars didn't treat us like tourists at all. They welcomed us like we were there every week. Can't wait to go back.

Planning another trip
By Juanita, 11/12/06
The Crows Nest is famous for it's contribution to the Hollywood movie, The Perfect Storm starring Mark Walhberg and George Clooney. The amtopshere and friendly staff including owner Mary Ann Shatford, treat you like a star and make you feel like a regular. Unfortunately, the lunch menu is not available anymore but I was fortunate enough to be there during their Halloween parties and the meals are great! The Nest is local to several different restuarants and local historical sites. All are within walking distant of The Nest. Do yourself a favor and take the scenic route.
