Samarkand Inn, Gloucester

We have been coming here since first discovering about 10 years ago. Nancy is friendly and welcoming and I always feel lucky that she has a room available, but call ahead because its small and cozy so you could be out of luck. Nancy serves the best coffee and breakfast, often with some home made goodies. I'm closing now because I want to get on the road - and be there in stead of just wring about it. Take a walk to the Island at low tide..it's something I look forward to each trip.

I stayed with a friend for 2 nights and was delighted. The beach is just across the street, and I could hear the waves, but no traffic! Room "snug" but fine. Friendly owner, fabulous breakfast, and a lovely closed porch for ocean viewing, reading and visiting. Will definitely go again!

My small daughter, wife, and I stayed here, and wow, it was a great place. Great breakfast, and the Innkeeper told us about great places to visit in the town. When my other daughter and I go back to Gloucester this July (2008) THIS is where we are going to stay!

Ocean views, clean rooms, friendly repeat guests and an unpretentious owner all add to a positive experience at the Samarkand. One of the best locations on Good Harbor Beach. Start your morning out with fresh baked goods, hot coffee and great conversations with a diverse group of people. Walk across the road look for creatures in the creek and enjoy the beach. Nancy, the owner, is down-to-Earth and makes you feel like family. Kid friendly. Comfortable, even aging accomodations in a beautiful old home make for the beach vacations that become family traditions. Not for the private or snooty seeking 4-star modern lodging....we don;t want you there :-)! While in Gloucester, don't forget to shop in Rockport, eat at Woodmans and do breakfast or chowda at The Gull. P.S. there
