come married and leave divorced
If you bring your wife to this hotel on a visit to new york, she will leave you. I expected the worst because I read the reviews. The smell was awful and when I finally got up to my closet (I mean room), I just left the window open even though it was 40 degrees. This was not a big deal because the window was broken anyway. I went to the communal showers and used my best dance moves to avoid the rampant pubic hairs. I expected the worst so I wasn't really disappointed. It is like going on a blind date after seeing a photo of her and telling yourself "she can't really be that bad" Yes she can! and this hotel was. I just had to laugh. New York is a great city. I just think this place is hilariously bad.

Quit while your ahead!!!
By Leslie, 11/24/07
Do not stay here! The price is cheap, but you still do not get what you pay for. I checked in at 5pm and checked out at 5:05 pm. The hallways smell was unbearable. There was stains on the bed, and the walls were a mess.

We'll definitely go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/31/07
This hotel is not your fancy-dancy hotel like the Crowne Plaza, etc... but we loved it. My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 6 days, and it was awesome, (it's small, but it was just right because we were gone all day anyway). Yes you have to share a bathroom, but it was never occupied when we needed to..ya know...go, and it was always very clean. It's a few blocks away from Central Park, Grey's Papaya Hotdogs (yummy), Mcdonald's, some pharmacy, and Cafe 71 (mm...mm..good). When you exit the hotel and you turn left you will see the River and there's a peer that you can walk on (sooo romantic, beautiful sunset). The hotel is in a residential side of the city, so it was nice and quiet in the evening and we got to meet alot of people. We miss New York City!! We will definitely go back and stay at this hotel again.

Not as clean as most say...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/07
I just got back from New York last week. It was my first time and I was very excited to go but very skeptical about the hotel. After reading the reviews that said that it was clean, I figured I would book there. Well, it was not clean at all and I was a little afraid of my safety. The bathrooms were not all that clean. The showers had ripped shower curtains, drained slowly, and had mold in them. The floor was also gross. You had your own roll of toilet paper and bar of soap. The rooms were also gross. The beds were really hard. They were stained and you only had a thin sheet covering them. They couldn't even spend money on a mattress pad! I requested extra towels and slept on them and used one for an extra pillow since the pillows were flat. I know that this is a very basic hotel (which I was fine with because I didn't spend too much time in the hotel - thankfully), but I didn't think they would be cheap on pillows, towels, toilet paper, and mattress pads among other things! Also, there are security cameras, but when I looked behind the desk, I did not see a TV screen monitoring the hotel. Anyone can walk in because they do not make you go through the lobby to enter and the door to the hotel is unlocked. The hallway that you exit the hotel from smelled like pee. Also, the elevators were old and creaky. There was even a sign that said that the management desk had the safety code for the elevator, they did not even post this! Yes, the hotel is cheap and in a good location, but safety and being clean are more important to me.

A pleasant surprise in a great neighborhood
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/11/07
We've stayed at two similar types of hotels on the Upper West Side in the past, and this one is by far the best. For its age and price, it is generally clean, quiet, and fairly well-maintained--the rooms are even cheerful. Originally a tenant-only studio apartment building, it now is a mixed-use building with both permanent residents and visitors. One permanent resident we met in the hall was friendly, and he also told us about recent movies shot on that very block, including "You've Got Mail" and "Music and Lyrics." Even a cursroy look at the block explains why--any film or TV scene that tries to convey a romantic Manhattan street looks just like this. Other perks: it is only a two-block walk from the 72nd Street 1/9 subway, where you can get express service to Grand Central and all other subway lines. Also close to Central and Riverside parks. We will certainly go back the very next time we're in New York.

40th Birthday
By StephanieC, 5/24/07
Location was very good, rooms and bathrooms were clean, the room had a little musty smell to it,but nothing an open window and a bottle of febreeze cant fix. Over all hotel was good enough for what we needed.Just a place to sleep while we play in the city.Shared bathrooms were just fine never had to wait to use a bathroom.Close to the 72nd train stop which is a major train stop which was excellent.

great value
By StanT, 3/26/07
I stayed there for 2 nights 3/23-3/24 Price was great less than $80/night. I booked it through the internet and wasn't sure what to expect... Room was very clean, with fridge, TV and a sink with mirror, clean sheets also. My room was cleaned by staff in the morning. The shared bathrooms were nice, just like the one you have in college. They are cleaned every morning. This hotel is great for the price and I will definitely return. Where else can you stay in NY for less than $80 a night anayway??

Riverside rooms
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/16/07
Great location. Nothing super, but if you just need a room whilst seeing the sights of NYC, I definitely think it is great. Very affordable for a NYC visitor.

Value for money
By Richard, 8/15/05
Imagine staying in a decent, clean hotel in the heart of west-side Manhatten, New York near the famous Hudson River and the scenic Hudson Parkway. It is in the safest neighbourhood imaginable, with grocery stores and restaurants a block or two away. The toilets and bedrooms are clean, daily. The amenities include TV, a working fridge, air-conditioning, lights, closet with hangers, single seat sofa, a desk with chair, and nice comfortable bed with pillows. Now imagine the price you have to pay for a night there. Would you believe you won't have to fork out more than the average price of a single one-way discount carrier ticket for peak season travel to NY from any US city? I didn't when I reserved a room at Riverside Studio's at 342 W 71st Street, NYC through the Internet. But my doubts were put to rest when I stayed there, once I realized what a great deal I landed myself with! The value is geniune, once you compare hotel prices in the Manhatten area, and the close distance of the subway and sights of Manhatten, including Central Park, from Riverside Studio's. After staying for two nights there, I can't wait to return for another summer vacation a year later, if I can afford the air ticket!! There is a downside, it could do with a safe or safety deposit box. Otherwise I won't had to carry my valuables with me during my daily sightseeing travels.
