Not as clean as most say...

I just got back from New York last week. It was my first time and I was very excited to go but very skeptical about the hotel. After reading the reviews that said that it was clean, I figured I would book there. Well, it was not clean at all and I was a little afraid of my safety. The bathrooms were not all that clean. The showers had ripped shower curtains, drained slowly, and had mold in them. The floor was also gross. You had your own roll of toilet paper and bar of soap. The rooms were also gross. The beds were really hard. They were stained and you only had a thin sheet covering them. They couldn't even spend money on a mattress pad! I requested extra towels and slept on them and used one for an extra pillow since the pillows were flat. I know that this is a very basic hotel (which I was fine with because I didn't spend too much time in the hotel - thankfully), but I didn't think they would be cheap on pillows, towels, toilet paper, and mattress pads among other things! Also, there are security cameras, but when I looked behind the desk, I did not see a TV screen monitoring the hotel. Anyone can walk in because they do not make you go through the lobby to enter and the door to the hotel is unlocked. The hallway that you exit the hotel from smelled like pee. Also, the elevators were old and creaky. There was even a sign that said that the management desk had the safety code for the elevator, they did not even post this! Yes, the hotel is cheap and in a good location, but safety and being clean are more important to me.
