12 reviews for Sara's Campground, Erie
Good September Camping
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/22/09
Me and my girlfriend went here the weekend after labor day. After reading reviews I was nervous that they wouldn't feel comfortable with us because I am 23 and she is 22. The weight was lifted once we arrived, however, as the staff was extremely polite and nice and didn't seem to care at all about our age. The campgrounds that aren't on the beach were terrible, but the beach camping was awesome. there ARE trees and as long as you don't camp right next to the water, like an idiot, you don't have to worry about the wind blowing anything away. Bathroom were surprisingly clean. I could see the beach area being crowded in summer months, but its a perfect spot for off season camping. I would recommend this to anyone and as long as you get there early you should be guaranteed a spot.

We had a blast! Lake Erie is very peaceful!
By Michele, 08/19/09
The people who run Sara's do a great job. They are as polite as can be and keep thier store is well stocked with prices lower than a typical grocery store. I was nervous about using a public shower but the facilities were spotless and there was never a wait for the showers or the laundry. I loved camping on the beach and that Sara's privately owns their beach. You can swim out as far as you want and take whatever kind of boats/rafts you want. The other campers are friendly and respectful and I felt my children were safe to walk around the camp in the evenings. People are very quiet before 11PM and the sound of the lake tide is peaceful. I took 4 boys and it was easy ..they had a blast and I liked that the beach was right outside of our tents so I did not have to load the kids and their stuff in or out of the car each day. The shaded bike trail is beautiful and begins just outside the gates of the campground. We camped at Sara's for 5 days and will go back next year.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/17/09
the sun sets are very nice, but thats it. the beach is so crowded you can move. So many rocks are in the sand so it hurts to walk. the campers off the beach are run down and and make the whole place look bad. everywere is very dirty. on the beach there is no protection from the sun, nun at all!! bathrooms are so nasty i went up the road to mcdonalds to use the bathroom, looks like it is cleand once a week if that. the store sucks. i hated every minute i was at this camp site i would not stay there ever again even if it was free. i would never recomend anyone to this campsite. the highlight of the trip was leaving!!!!!

Wandering invaders!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/29/09
The camp was excellent, people were polite and we were having a wonderful time. We had settled down to an evening around the campfire when a wandering band of intoxicated women just dropped in and invaded our campsite. They apparently knew one of the men in the campsite and were loud, obnoxius and rude. These were not young women and it was distributing. It put a damper on our weekend.

rude staff rejected me!!!
By Kelly, 10/06/08
I too was turned down because the owner did not feel comfortable with me staying there, and after driving two plus hours to get there I can say that i was a little upset. I found it very insulting that she would turn me down after asking how old I was! I'm 21 and married for goodness sake! after being rejected I wandered around the camp while waiting for my husband, and found that you have to pay to take a shower. The beach was very rocky (big big rocks), and scattered with garbage. The view of the lake was pretty, but the dead seagull was not! If you are a hard working college student looking for a nice getaway....this is not the place for you!

not recommended
By anthony, 09/22/08
I would not recommend this campsite to anybody under 22 because my friend and I were turned down at first because it would be "uncomfortable" for the owner, yet nowhere does it say on the website that there is an age restriction. Thus, we weren't allowed to stay because of our age. Furthermore, I found the staff to be unaccomadating and rude. While the view of the lake is nice, the tent sites were too crowded and the baech was filthy and could have been cleaned up a little bit better.

It was great!
By DianeC, 08/25/08
We had a wonderful time! We will go again next year. Camping on the beach is the way to go. Next time we will bring less. The store has everything you could want and the Hot dogs (Made in Erie, PA - Smiths brand) were the best I have had in a long time. The only suggestion I have is to check the rates. We had 7 people over 18 and it was a little more than we expected to pay - still worth it though.

Your Face Belongs HERE

Do not like the campsites. Too close to everyone else. No space. There is alot of complaining going on..from what ive seen there is alot of conflict in the campsite area....some people want to enjoy life and live a little relax have some beer and just chill listen to some tunes and others want to complain that the people who are enjoying themselves shouldnt listen to music and have a good time. Everything should be all quiet and peaceful like there is nothing to do but stare straight ahead and pretend you may have a life... Forget this place..aweful unless your really lame.

We can't wait to go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/07
The camp sites were very tight. There are 2 sides to the campgrounds. We stayed at the Bay side and the showers were very clean. The beaches were great and the location to the park is right there next to the campground. We went late in the summer so it wasn't that crowded on the beaches. We will make another trip next year!
