Disappointed Dinner
By ,
We were there for dinner, my meal was not just room temp, but cold in the center. Others at out table had prime rib and it was tasty but very fatty...and we had to get the attention on the waitress several times.... even to take our order. It wasn't very busy at the time either. However.... what a place to see...absolutely gorgeous inside!!! A lovely dining area, bar, and inn. We will go back, as it may have been an 'off night'

Best kept secret in Gettysburg!
By ,
The Inn and restaurant are only 8 miles from Gettyburg - no far, especially if you are a Civil War enthusiast as I am. The Inn is the oldest in the Gettysburg area and has been in continuous operation as an Inn since the 1700's AND is located on the actual retreat General Robert E. Lee took the Confederates on in 1863. We stayed in the same room JEB Stuart slept in in 1862 and the service great and the food delicious and inexpensive. We had a drink in front of a real (not gas) wood burning fireplace which really made us feel like we were experiencing histroy. Don't miss this place - it's worth the drive...

Laid back is only good to a point...
By ,
after that, it becomes poor service. We had reservations for Sunday and Monday night.Arrived on Sunday afternoon. No one was there to meet us so I flagged a waitress down who grabbed the chef who passed me off the the bartender who got us set up in the room. Our room was on the front and traffic noise was so bad we wore earplugs to sleep. This was really no one's fault, but I'm passing it on for future customers. Dinner Sunday night was really very good. Breakfast Monday was served at 8:30 and was fine. Tuesday morning, the day we were leaving, no one showed up. We dropped our keys on the hallway table and left. All in all, it's a very nice inn with very friendly staff. They just carry the "laid back" thing too far. If their prices were laid back too, I wouldn't have minded so much.

Ignored by Staff!
By ,
Recently when my parents came to visit me here in Gettysburg, my dad decided he wanted to eat at The Fairfield Inn. He had heard it was good. We drove all the way out to the Inn and when we got inside, the place was empty. No customers for dinner yet, and dinner was to start at 5. We were there at 5:30 and got into the lobby and waited for someone to acknowledge us. We waited, and waited, looked at the brochures, looked at the dining area, and waited some more. While waiting, we saw a few employees walk by, chose not to acknowledge us and kept on going about their business. After waiting about 20 mins, my dad got fed up and decided he wanted to leave. Don't recommend going here to eat, since no one waits on you for dinner anyway. Don't be hungry!

Never again
By ,
Dinner tasted like it had been made when the Inn was first opened. The food was cold and the chicken was dried out. Service was terrible and very slow. The one and only bathroom for the restaurant was not in working order.

Beautiful house with excellent hospitality
By ,
My husband, 3 month old baby and I spent the night at the Fairfield Inn for my birthday this past weekend. Upon entering the inn, we were greeted by a hostess who immediately got the owner, Sal, who took let us choose a room between two that were available. After he set us up and turned on our air conditioning, he went and got us water (it was very hot that weekend). He also offered to help my husband with the luggage and showed him how to use the keys to the front door. The next morning at brunch (which was delicious and an excellent price) Sal met us again and spoke to us. The Inn is very historic, and you can walk look into the different rooms (as long as they are unoccupied) and there is a window cut out on the top floor to see where the runaway slaves would hide in the "Underground Railroad". The waiter at brunch, although I can't recall his name, was very polite and the service was excellent. The Inn was an excellent choice and we had a wonderful experience. If you are visiting Gettysburg, you might as well add the Fairfield Inn as part of your historic tour of the area.

Disappointed
By ,
For the price: Our room was adequate. The location was a bit distant from Gettysburg. Not bad, not good. The music in the tavern was good. Breakfast was abysmally inadequate. A cinnamon roll and a slice of melon is unexpected in a country inn. Dinner reservations were not kept - by the Inn. We had reserved for 7:30. Came down at 7:30 to find no one to seat us. We stopped a waitress and identified ourselves. No on came. So, after 20 minutes, we went elsewhere.
